Arc repair?????

So made my way to the lake this morning winds were 18-25 mph so I pulled the 10m synergy out of the bag. Everything was going well, I figured out water starts and actually rode a couple hundred meters in one direction. I had two choices try and ride back switch or walk back up the beach and start again. Figured it was worth the try to ride back. Of course I bailed and pulled the kite into the water. Water relaunch was fine but when the kite was climbing back up the wind shifted and caused the kite to bowtie. When I got the kite lowered a gust caused my rear line to rip the kite from leading edge almost to trailing edge along the seam two cells ahead of the inflate zip. I flagged out safety and fought to roll up a then half water filled kite. Inspected the tear and it is for sure along the seam. The cell wall is loose and so is the ripstop on either side of the wall. Is there any places in North America that can repair these things???? I will post pics of it later tonight once I have all my gear out to dry. I want to get the kite fixed A.S.A.P so that I don't miss to many sessions.

Thanks
Shaggs

another vote for fixmykite.com
I mailed them my kite. They did the estimate and let me know the cost before starting.

I think Powerzone does kite repairs and I think waranties them but maybe he will weigh in on that. always nice to support members of the forum I think.

Wade is in Saskatoon did a great job on my Sabre, bridle etc. Close to you and shipping is a big factor, sent you his e-mail. I would have been riding my Scorpion in those winds, but hey I'm crazy...lol.

Cheers

fixmykite did an awesome job on my Phantom. I frequently forget about the repairs unless something jogs my memory.

Hey Shaggs
If you have a guy close to you with foil experience - go for it. I've repaired many a twinskin and have 2 Synergies and a new Charger sitting in the repair que right now at home.
When the ribs separate it either pulls the rib away from the upper/lower skins and can tear that stitching line like a perforation line and you will need to patch the strip construction first on the outer skin before re-attaching the rib. Often a rib will also tear the edge that is folded over to attach it to the outer skin and then that torn edge may direct itself down across the rib so they will need fixing as well. Then you need to watch the internal straps get re-atached correctly.

You need a good thread and tape and in some cases I've had to take out panels to trace and replace - Some jobs are big, some are small, it's just a matter of time and patience when you need to keep turning things inside out and working in limited access with so much nylon draped all over the place - not to mention the sand that is usually sifting out as well.

Go with a local guy first, that should get you back up and running the fastest.
Mark

PS- that also reminds me of AJ's post yesterday (not here) of his 19m Synergy that's now in 3 separate pieces from going through the washing machine after getting caught in 10 foot waves. He managed to stay clear of the lines and kite carnage

we do lots of repairs , email me with pictures so i can see the damage, then we can get an idea of cost and stragegy.

most repairs are ~$50 depending on repair type and severity.

go to our website under repair section to fill out the form and send it in with your kite. also check out our Gallery in the repair section for afew samples of projects we've done.

Thanks a ton guys very much appreciated. Gonna hopefully get it all cleaned up and sent off somewhere for repair this week. Sucks that I just got the kite a week ago and this happens but I'm definitely glad that it happened in shallow water close to shore. If that would have happened in the middle of the lake with the kite taking on water like it did I would have been S.O.L and possibly out of a kite. But I'm determined that its just a minor setback and by the end of this summer I will be an efficient rider on the water. Never experienced any water sports till the other day and must say that it truly felt amazing to plane across the water like that. You guys are awesome thanks for the support.

Canada hmm, Kiteloft might be an option, otherwise go with what the rest says.
Fixmykite, powerzone, they're good.

If you decide to send it across the border beware of shipping cost and duties. Must be claimed as a repair or they''ll crucify you and nail you hard. Try and get it sent to Alberta side of the border and save provincial sales tax too.
