Kites in South Carolina
Have any of you found any good spots for Static flying or any kind of traction kiting in South Carolina? Specifically Florence or myrtle beach areas
would be great. I know ive seen some kiteboarders off the garden city beach but didnt know about the more land oriented flyers.

Where are you in SC?
I live in Florence and kite here on a sod farm and other locations around the area depending on time and wind direction. I also kite at the coast in
several places as do a sub group of this forum know as the SoFKA (Southern flied kite Assc). I occasionally kite in Columbia at a couple of spots
while visiting parents.
Reply or here or drop me a U2U for specifics.
Welcome to the PKF!

PoKiteTrash/ Chris Rieke here has a Polo field in Aiken, SC. It's like 300 acres of open field.
A bunch of us SoFKA members (you are a member now) will get together several times a year at various regional locations, kind of on a rotating basis,
Sullivan's Island, Folly Beach, Aiken, Jekyll Island GA.
Welcome to the fold.

Edited to add: I forgot to disclose one of my spots when i lived in greenville. I would go out to Lockheed Martin and they had a couple fields that
were nice. The one with a big hole for a retention pond (but never had water in it) and another was their old runway.
At the runway there are no trespassing signs but there is a large area between that and the main LM facility. When they cut it, its a large area but
has a good many weeds. The other field by the airport is better for static. If you ask permission they may let you on that old runway. It would be
a great place for a buggy. I think its Michelin that runs on it from time to time so apparently someone can get permission.
I flew RC planes and kites in the area between the runway and the LW facility and never had security do more than watch.

Ahh yes, the Lockheed Martin grounds would be nice.
Went over there and its pretty much fenced in now. But like you said, get permission and it would be prime spot.

Yea, visit Aiken if you can, anytime. U2U me if you want to swing down. Look for a summer meet up thread soon for OOBE Field (aka Polo field). it's
huge and cut short weekly BUT the wind can get flaky, hense the name OOBE Field. Eveyone who flies there WILL get dragged or blown out of a buggy, off
your feet, at least once...It's sort of a badge of honor.
