Spent Fri. night and Saturday in Philadelphia skating Philly Free Skate. We did a 12 mile group skate Friday night, 15 mile group skate Sat morning
through the streets of Philly with 80-100 skaters. Skating is a GREAT way to tour a city.
At 3pm they had a National Slalom Competition. They needed 1 more competitor to fill the roster, so my buds talked me into it. I have never skated cones, was on brand new skates for all of 10 minutes, and only got
back into skating last year after over10 years. Most of the other competitors are nationaly ranked slalom skaters and half my age.
I only know backwards criss-cross, so I was an old one trick pony... http://vimeo.com/12713809
Nice
I could never do that tricky stuff at all ... I jumped up and down things, did the half-pipe in a very lame way and played hockey - that's about it :D
Yea, big group skates on city streets are amazing. You'd think we have superpowers how fast we can stop traffic. Skating in the subway is way cool.
And we went through some ROUGH neighborhoods....streghth in numbers saved us. :wink2:
Spent half the night editing video of the event.......
I have to get down to Greateskkate one of these years....and Paris? that would be too cool.
Alot of friends I skate with are with Central Park Skate Patrol. I'm 45-60 minutes south of the city and wish I had time for training and to skate
NYC/Central Park more often. Angus, You should come up for Big Apple Roll '10 and see some old faces.
You would have seen me easily. I would have been the one being put in the ambulance with everything broken.
As far as I am concerned the fact that you were asked to enter says a lot. Great job not breaking your neck!
