Beginner 4 line

Curious if someone could suggest an intro 4 line power kite. Ive never flown using 4 lines, but would like to try.

Flexifoil Sting 2.4 or 3.3 ($$)
HQ Beamer 3M
Ozone Flow 3M ($$)
Peter Lynn Hornet 3M

At 6' 3" & 275#, a 4M in lighter winds would probably be fine and prevailing winds will be the determining factor.

The Flexifoil & Ozone tend to be a bit more spendy, but if you can find a lightly used one for a good price... worth jumping on.

Sam

good list just wanted to add the peter lynn viper and the prism tensor to the list.

to help us dial you in on a kite more suited to what you want to do it would help us to know what you want to use the kite for? jumping, buggy, stunt flying, static flying, etc.

Thanks for the suggestions.

This will be simply to get the knack of a 4 line down. So static flying right now. Ultimately Id like to get a board, but thats probably down the road a bit. Winds will vary significantly. From consistant 20mph along the west and northern beaches to 5-15 closer to home. I have no interest in jumping, Buggy would be cool...... So this will just be my "get it dialed in" kite.

Sounds like you have a great wind range, just start close to home in about 8-12 and work your way up.

Also checkout some tutorials. I found these are a great help, I still go back and reread em every once and a while.

Was in the same boat as you, just received my Peter Lynn 3m Hornet last week. Took it out this weekend and was impressed with how stable it was (only comparison I had was a 1.5m, 2 line kite) Looking to learn on this kite, and then purchase a 5-6m later in the summer.

Well, pulled the pin on a Hornet 3m from Coastal Winds. Seems they are quite interested in giving out information and advice freely, so Id repay them by giving them my business. Thanks for all the advice and suggestions... In less then 1 week Ive gone from 2 Delta stunts to 5, with the additional 3 being foils.

Make it 7 now. I got out with my 4yo daughter thinking the winds were up enough to get some air time...

Started with the Sting 1.2 just because I havent had it up yet... No dice.

Moved onto the Symphony 1.8... I should have laid this next to the Sting... the HQ looks small than the Sting.. But anyway, no dice there either.

I dont have my hornet yet, but did try out the Snapshot I picked up on the cheap... I was able to get that up and keep it up, but the wind where we were was real choppy.

So Ive been doing alot of research, and just dropped the hammer on a 5m hornet. We have a large field close to our house... but getting strong and consistent winds through it can be challenging at times. So after a discussion with Angus, I decided to go ahead and grab the 5m now just incase the 3m doesnt like the light winds we have close by.

Its an addiction I tell ya.... My daughter liked flying, although we were flying into the sun and it wasnt as exciting as it could have been. I may head out to the shore tomorrow and get some time in.
