Interesting "tough love" marketing.....

It can take photos, put it in the photo burst mode and you can take pictures every few seconds for as long as your memory card lasts. If you don′t get a decent photo then you need to do something else or give the camera to someone else who can really use it



For worry free filming, it is going to be hard to beat the replaceable lens shields on the GoPro. It's nice to know that a scratch isn't going to trash the camera.

Just my 2 cents worth but I have this one http://www.vio-pov.com/products/pov_15.php and it has been awesome for skiing, motorcycling, and rockclimbing. I am yet to use it with the buggy but it is waterproof, made for impacts, and is one of the cameras that they use to film NitroCircus. If Travis can't break it....it must be good. Oh yeah and waterproof too.

i have a few of these arriving in 2-3 weeks. most of the mounts you had to buy separately are already included. the only added accessory one would need is the GPS unit.

I got to check one out at a local snowboard shop. Was very well built from what I could tell, they wouldn't let me drop it, lol.

I just picked up the Oregon Scientific ATC9K. WATERPROOF (Including the remote), 1.5" LCD view finder screen, an integrated sensor that measures G-Force while filming, GPS module, swappable Lithium batteries, 5MP camera, low light capable, a built in laser pointer to line up your shot, on the fly exposure and white balance controls and a universal tripod mount that will enable me to affix it to anything. Everyone wonders whether or not they will use the built in screen. YOU WILL. Every time I have mounted this camera I have had to adjust the angle to get the perfect shot. The instant feedback is invaluable. The shock resistant housing has taken a fair amount of abuse in the short time I have owned it, and I'm impressed with how well this camera has taken hits. It includes several mounting options, so it shouldn't be hard to hard mount on the buggie. I hope this helps.

I ran the Contour last season and I didn't like it.

The software sucked, the mounts are really unfriendly especially in the cold or with gloves on, the light sensitivity is only adjustable via computer, and sighting it is a PITA. You can't see lasers when you're out on the snow. It has a big record button which is nice but the audio que is the same for on and off so it's hard to tell what the heck is going on.

And the interface on the mounts is sloppy so even if you hard mount to a helmet it gets vibration.

I'm running the Drift 170hd now and so it rocks. I'm not taking it in water so the waterproofness isn't an issue. The remote is awesome. The audio que for on and off as well as record and pause are all different so no confusion.

8mm mount so you can mount it to anything with an 8mm screw. Handy for fabricating mounts.

Field of view is great. Sighting with the screen is super easy and on board playback is handy. I haven't used the zoom yet while in the field but playing around it looks great.

Battery time on the the standard battery seems to be around 3hrs in the cold if you are deligent with the remote and pause it while not recording useful footage. I also set the screen to set shut off at 20seconds Saves a lot on battery.

My dog whipped it into the floor in the first hour of having it and no damage to the lens. I also slapped on the ice and hit the camera side when my head hit with no ill effect.

I agree a replaceable lens is nice but having had helmet cams for the last 20yrs and using them mostly for mountain biking and backcountry skiing I have never wrecked a lens.

I don't have an issue with the 30fps unless I want slow mo.

If the ATC9k had a remote that would be the complete package. It's a bit chunky bodywise IMO but a nice rig. After seeing the reviews and the quality of my OS cam copared to the Drift I prefer the drift.

The ATC9K comes with a 6 function remote (Play/Pause, Forward, Back, Menu, Video On/Off, Camera).

I also own the Oregon Scientific ATC5K, and I can honestly say the ATC9K is a quantum leap forward. Like you I value the on board screen, and I also like that it is also waterproof when I kite surf in the summer.

I got the Drift Innovation standard definition for $160 canadian with all the mounts. I like the fact that if the batteries die you can just change them and not have to wait to recharge. There is a goggle strap mount that can be a bit shaky depending on the conditions, switching to the velcro mounts on the helmet was easy and much better. The lens orientation can twist to adjust to whatever attachment situation. These cameras are getting smaller and smaller and better and better. I do like the oregon scientific, but I'll wait till the 2nd generation HD's come out - they will be a little smaller. As an aside, I think the Drift doesn't look as geeky on a helmet as the gopro... a little more sleek. For a guy like Feyd aerodynamics is a consideration!

I purchased an extra Lithium so I can swap out a low battery in a pinch. I also carry a USB cigarette lighter adapter in case I want to charge my batteries when I'm on the beach.

I like the standard tripod mount found on the 9K. You can spin it loose, and swivel the cam on the fly.

+1 for Velcro. I recommend 3M Dual Lock. It will dramatically reduce camera shake in almost every situation.

A question for you - have the mounts also been upgraded over the ATC5K? I share the vibration sentiment on the old mounts. I didn't even have to film anything with the helmet mount - I could see the camera wagging back & forth on the helmet in the mirror. I think it was the foam tape they provided that was the weak link.

I am not an employee of Oregon Scientific. I live in Portland, and a friend of mine works there so I do have the inside scoop.

I own both the 5K, and the 9K. The camera mount on the 5K is "Almost Identical" to the 9K. The only difference is that on the 9K the camera grip can be removed.

The only way to eliminate this is by using the included Velcro patch or by using some 3M Dual Lock. Both work great. In a pinch I have used some "Gaffers" tape.

Had no idea that the 9k has a remote. Definately a good idea for a helmet cam. Tho I can't see a need for fast forwarding and rewinding etc. while the camera is on my head. At least for my needs.

I agree it's a good set up. More than what I want to pay and with more features available than I need. For example I already have GPS units.

But the G meter would be fun.

Still a bit clunky for my tastes profile wise.

The ATC9K comes with an HDMI cable so you plug it into your Television. The Forward and Reverse buttons are used to navigate the menu functions while using it for playback.
