OBX NC (my own little daily grind while it lasts)

I'm visiting my parents in Waves NC for the next week. I'll be there late Monday and intend to stay through the weekend. Wind direction and strength will determine buggy or kitesurfing. I imagine my skills on water will keep me in the sound and out of the surf but who knows after a week there. Kite should be in the air for sure though. I'll be the one riding the Arcs. Shouldn't be hard to find.

Looks like there will be enough wind some days to make the leap to the 10m syn on the water. Wind like that exposes gaps in my quiver. If you are talking 6m phantom then I'm probably blown out. I have the 8m venom II though, so we'll see. AJ, which wind forecast have you found to be pretty accurate for OBX?

EDIT: If you see an arc flying and the rider is 30 feet off the water and looks like he meant to then that's AJ. :shocked2: :wow:

We've got a large quiver of NEO IIs here on OBX, including a 6m. You may be driving past our warehouse on your way in. Let me know if you are in need. Enjoy your stay!

Chris, you read my mind. We didn't get in till after dark tonight, so didn't try to stop. Wexler has been asking for some water action so some small neos would be awesome for him to give it a try while we are here. I'll come by one day soon. Maybe we can fly together while we are here too.

Got rained out today but had a great visit at the HQ hq. Chris and Craig rolled out the red carpet showing us some new stuff on the way and let us borrow some cool toys. Reviews to follow if the rain will stop. Epic day setting up for Thursday.

Watch for HQ to kick it up another notch across the board when things start hitting the shelves. These guys never sleep it seems.

Also worth mentioning, I met Action Jackson today. He's as cool in person as when he's given me all the help he has in the last few years. Always willing to share the knowledge he has from the experience I'm jealous of.

Yeah, I'm wondering if I have the kiwis to go out in weather appropriate for my 8 or 10 arc. I also have an 8 and 6m Neo as well. 225lb guy riding a 6m neo on the water. makes my stomach flutter just thinking about it.

NW winds at about 20 tomorrow. Heading for the Canadian Hole to see if we can get some water time. 15 Syn should be just right for me. Wexler will be on the 6m NEO II.

We had a fantastic day at what the locals call "Canadian Hole". It is the "L" shaped area inside the Outer Banks just a mile or 2 north of the Hatteras Lighthouse. In about an hour, Wexler my 15 year old son (HQ team rider), was holding his line and making it back to his starting point. When we arrived winds were at 20 and gusting higher. Wexler went out on the 6m NEO and did better every time he got up. I didn't ride at first wanting to make sure the newbie didn't get into any trouble. He was always fine but at first had to walk back up the shore to regain lost ground. Later the wind dropped (about the same time I had enough confidence in Wexler to ride myself) and we switched him to the 8m NEO (I can't thank HQ enough for the borrowed quiver). Wexler really impressed the regulars and he showed off the NEOs very well, prompting questions about the kite and wonderment that he had only tried this once before. By the time I headed out, the wind had dropped down to 14-15. I was riding my 15 Syn. I had a few runs that were well powered. One run was awesome and I didn't want it to end. I rode about a mile offshore against my better judgement and did have some trouble getting back but mostly rode with a little body dragging in the end. I find myself more stoked at Wexler ripping it back and forth than about the few good runs I had. We can be a team now. I know I can ride for sure now as long as I have enough wind. I need to check into that 19m Venom and see if it makes some horsepower down to 15 or so.

Short but great buggy run this morning. Running an empty beach between ramps 2 and 4. I had fairly firm sand down next to the surf. Total of almost 14 miles with a top speed of over 38 mph. Winds were in the low to mid teens and I was flying the 15m synergy and the Ivanpah buggy. The wind was about 45 degrees from onshore so I had a 15-20 mph leg upwind and then my fast run back downwind. Wind and tides closed me down after an hour and a half, but what I had was memorable.

So much fun flying with you and Wexler this weekend. Glad you were able to buggy the nice onshore wind this morning.

Caught some video of you both flying at Wright Memorial on Saturday...

Are you leaving soon? We need to do a downwinder.

Cheers!

Wow, today was a dream come true for me. Went back to Canadian Hole at Cape Hatteras and rode non-stop on the water for about 5 hours. Winds were between 15 and 23 most of the day. With the miles I put in, I was able to refine my stance on the water, better my transitions (at least the left to right ones  ) and nail down the starts left and right.

I got into kites in order to do what I did today and the icing on the cake was getting to do it with my son Wexler. Many times I would be following him or he would be be following me and that was so cool. One time in particular, I noticed his NEO hovering over my head just to my right and looked over my shoulder to see him running right with me in a place as fantastic as Canadian Hole within eyesight of the Cape Hatteras lighthouse. Pics to come as soon as I can get them uploaded. The 15m Synergy and 6m NEO definitely stand out among the crowd in the pics.

AJ, I could get used to your world real fast. Where were the slicks with a NNW wind?

It would feel better representing us foil guys if I was a tad better than the group I'm riding with. I kept worrying that they thought my lack of skill was because of my kite instead of it being the third time I've ridden.
