Why is powerkiting so much fun?

I was trying to think about why I'm so addicted to kites this weekend. There are so many different aspects to it: riding, scudding, jumping, gear, playing outside, escaping from work etc. etc.....

here is my reason........don't you wish this was around 20 years ago

Why are kites so much fun? Because I don't think about work.

I do wish it was around 20 years ago. Actually I wish that I would have followed through more when I first started in 03 in Socal but work and school got in the way. This year I finally got on the water and it is euphoria.

+1 to flyjump and bobalooie!

Actually, I saw guys buggying in Christchurch, NZ about 20 years ago and thought it looked like a whole lot of fun, even went so far to find out about prices ... then forgot about it cos I couldn't afford it

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

AD72....you are spot on. This is why I have always been a motorcycle guy. When I am on my bike/flying my kite I can only think of one thing. The task at hand. Totally clear mind. Best thing in the world. My kites/motorcycle are my escape from the pressures of the week.

The escape factor is huge for me. OK brain this is what we are doing so time to focus. Flying RC, kites, paraglider- same result. Clear out the bad crap.

Aim low. Reach your goals, and avoid disappointment.

I think it's about playing with forces that are just beyond our control. Each session always presents a new challenge or surprise. Not to mention the physical aspect of it. I agree it clears the mind of the days troubles.

Yes each session is completely different. It feels great when you are able to adapt to the days wind and then have a session. I like sitting at home looking at the new pictures and reviewing what you learned and what fun was had

because it's either kites or crack..... and only my kites swallow my money and beat the crap out of me and leave me a giggling mess... crack just leaves me a mess

j/k

I kite because I can. I love it, and it's about the only thing left that I don't mind the bumps and bruises that come along with it.

Agree with everything said. Along with hockey and snowboarding, I find that either chasing a puck or trying not to die really changes your train of thought. No meetings with the VP, no stressful wedding planning... No nothing. Just hold on and go along for the ride - which is something i rarely do.

Yea, I am new and all but i feel like the community and sport are so supportive and out of the ordinary that it's all just the beginning.

No kites left :(
Maybe someday I'll snowkite again

It's so many things....It's catching a wave without have to paddle, jumping over shorepound, alone on the ocean with just the wind and your thoughts, being able to remember a great session a week later, going over the obstacle course at El Mirage, doing 180's and 360's and taking a shower and when you come out, still finding dirt in your ears, getting airs on my landboard and cruising up little hills, seeing people standing and watching and wondering just what the hell that is and what you're doing, knowing that there is no limit to what you can do and what you can learn and with a little gas money and wind you can have the time of your life....
