Wanted: 3m depower foil

i'm looking for a list of small (3-4m) depower foils with the same rigging as the ozone frenzy. i recently aquired a 7.5 frenzy but i've never flown a depower kite. all my experience up to now has been with quad handles up to 8m. i'd really like to work with something small until i'm a LOT more familiar with the rigging and safety systems. also, the 7.5 didn't come with a manual, and i haven't been able to find one online yet. is there a place where i can download it? i'd settle for exploded rigging and safety system diagrams...

I think the smallest you will find is a 4m, but a mellower 5m like an apexII might work for you.

Google Ozone kites and HQ power kites. That's about it in the US for open celled foils. Others to consider would be Peter Lynn and Flysurfer. Then there is a whole bunch of water kites. What are you looking for?

If you are interested in the Apex II, chudalicious has one for sale for $450. That is a very good deal. If you are willing to wait until mid-October, HQ will be releasing the Apex III and it will be available in 3.0 meters.

oneeyedfranc save your money. No need to buy a small depower. The winds you get in SF the 7.5 is going to treat you right 99% of the time. A 5m may be useful on the very windy days, but most of the time you will be underpowered with it. A 3m de-power is only useful in hurricane conditions. If you got one you would fly it for a couple sessions and realize it is way too small.

If you have transportation and want to drive into the valley I will be happy to get out and fly with you on your 7.5 and give you some pointers.

Are you in a buggy or on a board? I ask because de-power works best when you are moving. if you are only flying static then stick with the fixed bridles.

pls call me francis. i am currently sans vehicle. i'm working my way up to going out on the water. mostly i'm doing body drags at the marina green. i've got a pair of leather shorts with a reinforced rear. if i could have someone show me how to use and reset the safety systems i'd be a lot more comfortable flying the 7.5. what can i bribe u with to get u to join me at the green? how about a 20' raptor delta complete with 500' of 500lb test line on a wooden reel?

Flying a de-power static is like driving a race car around a go-kart track in first gear- you will never see the benefit.

The 3m Apex III is meant for schools and stupid nukin' winds. I'll try it in winds when I normally would be even leery of my Rage 3.5 (normal high-winds kite). Should be an absolute scream in the buggy. Should be able to eat up and spit out gusts like nothing else.

If you absitively need a smaller depower for training purposes there is always PowerZone's modded Hydras.

Here's a vid of me static flying an Ozone XT 4m depower. Somewhere along the vid I pull the primary safety and re-attach. Notice the small loops in the brake lines that I put around the bar while I'm re-attaching the safety - it keeps the brakes firmly on the kite. To get enough pull for the buggy out of this kite, I need about 18knots + (I think that's about 20mph) Really needs a bit more and by then it's moving pretty fast. The bigger depowers (like your 7m Frenzy) will be slower and more forgiving in a bit less wind. Safety system should be approximately the same.

I'm also on a 4m Ozone Access here... Great Kite and
Important to have the Depower for very high winds and Gusts...
Size depending on your weight.

I've also used it on the water as well...

From another Post now Flysurfer is making the Viron in Small sizes. Closed Cell.

If you're on 8m fixed bridles you should be fine on 7.5 depower???

I'm not moving yet, but it was easy to jump from 8m ace to 12m arcs as far as static flying goes. And yep the arcs only make it out of the bag when i have a chance to borrow a board, for static jumping on my usual tiny beaches it's FB all the way.

It's all in the trim strap as far as getting depowers dialed into their full wind range.

fixed bridles, flying static, been two years now... ??? folks must be wondering....

sting 1.7, dp power 2.5, crossfire 3.2, ace 5, blade iv 6.5, ace 8, ace 12...

also a couple of arcs, 12 syn and 12 phanny, but i\'m not yet up to speed on them.
