Total Newbie in Michigan

I've really just begun to explore the sport and am Really interested in checking it out. Seems like all the action is on the U.S. West Coast, France, and the UK.

I'd like to go find some folks to talk to and try it out, but not sure where to begin. I'm willing to drive out to the East coast - anyone have any ideas on good spots to find Kite ATBer's?

I'm in Toronto (grew-up in Detroit area). I've met a couple guys here at "the Beaches" in downtown Toronto, and went to two awesome Snow Kiting festivals on Lake Simcoe last winter.

As for Kite ATB places, I ride in soccer, cricket, rugby fields. Seems like they are the best in that they are flattest, mowed, and fastest. The cricket field in Markham is the best field I've found in the Greater Toronto Area.

Drop me a line if you'll be near TO.

Bill

Hey Bill

Thx for the response - after some further investigation I realized it's a silly question "where?"... I found some wind charts and along with google maps, I've got a bunch of places mapped out.

I'm a stones throw from Toronto, about 3 hours - if you get a few hours free some weekend and would be willing to show me the ropes (or lines, as it were, hah), I'd appreciate it immensely. I shot you a U2U message with a little more detail.

Cheers!

I just moved from El Salvador to Detroit last week. I kite surfed about 4 times in El Salvador on the ocean and am looking to keep practicing the sport in Detroit. I am living in Madison Heights for now, my equipment is not here yet. Is anyone going kitesurfing soon? I would like to at least come along to take a look. My number is 248-635-1206

I know this is a terribly old post, but I'm looking for Michigan kiting friends. I hope one, or all of you still get the e-mails on reply!

I can't win! There has to be at least a single person from my (somewhat) area that I can train with. Even a little gawking while he/she flies would be awesome. I'm not done yet! I'm going to find someone!

Get a buddy to come out with you. Create your own kite group in your area.

Drewculous - The population sign has said 3,491 since I moved here (when I was 5.. and I'm 27). I'm not sure exactly how many people we have here now=) I live directly across from Canada - literally, we have a couple ferrys in my town that go right across the Saint Clair River. Supposedly, after reviewing a map of some of the best kiteboarding locations, another area right across the river from me (Harsen's Island) is listed as a great kiteboarding location. Now I just need to find some people around here interested in it!

Akulakat - I'm in a difficult age group for that. Most of my friends from high school have long since moved away. The only person in my area I still really communicate with is my brother, and I've been trying to get him to jump onto the kite scene as well - but he's scared. He told me he'd come out to watch me fly, but he's seen too many youtube vids and he's freaked out.

adambomb...

If you are kiting in the UP of Michigan shoot me an email, we kite marquette, Lanse, Munising, Escanaba areas. Not terribly close to you, but an option within 6 hours.

Also, I STRONGLY suggest you investigate Tawas City, I hear it is rockin'. Nice flats, good winds.
