Hi All,

Am wondering which is the better kite for none to very low wind conditions and one that can be used indoors. Mainly outdoor use though.

1. Prism 4D - $149 AUD, 147cms

OR

2. Airwave UL $185 AUD, 220cms

I know that there is a size difference But which is the better kite? I also know bigger is Not always better. Smiles. Am leaning greatly towards the Prism only because there is a heap of info on it and its $50 cheaper. BUT

Which one is built better and has better support and replacement parts etc? Which can one do more with as in Tricks etc? Which would last longer? (if looked after of course). Prism says that one can do any trick with the Prism 4D. What is your opinion to this ?

BTW I already have a 2 meter and 5.6 meter power kites. But need something for zero to about 7 km wind. There have been a heap of days here where I am where there is just the slightest breeze 1-4 kms. Must be able to cope with 0,1,2,3,4,5 kms winds.

I think I am finding your question confusing ?

The Prism is a stunt kite. Are you looking for a low wind POWER kite or just a fun kite to fly in sub 7 winds?

I suggest you look into Revolution kites if you are looking for maximum fun flying in those low winds. By far the most versitile and fun free fly kite out there ! You can pick up a used Rev' for about the money you are willing to spend.

I wanted a stunt kite and a pretty tough one that won't break at a whim.

I've always liked prism kites myself but I'm sure either one would be enjoyable. "Doing any trick" is more about the flyer than the kite in all reality. Light wind kites are light so regardless of who makes it they won't do well with tricks that require some mass to help the kite rotate. That doesn't mean you can't have fun with it but you certainly need to lower your expectation. For 150-180 dollars either kite will be fun for those light wind days when nothing else will fly. You may also want to look at the light wind kites by R-Sky or perhaps a Pro-wren by Jeff Howard. Just my 2cents

Flying got 10 times easier when the kites don't have any sticks in them

Hi Gang,

I am about 300 mile inland from the coast so the beach kites are not suitable out here as such.

Its really cheap for us to get the kites from the US but its the FREIGHT that is the killer and the import tax and therefore we are pretty limited as to what we can get.

Here is one AU Site that has the best range.

There are only a couple of kites in that list that fit my 0,1,2,3,4,5 km wind range.

From that list at Briskites I'd go with the 4D if you want to stay under 200.

The Airwave UL will not fly indoors without a ton of work - and even then I wouldn't recommend it. The usable wind range on the UL would be from 1-2 mph to around 6-8 mph. It is not an indoor kite for sure. The 4D would be better. If you are looking for a Flying Wings kite than the Airwave Zero would be the better choice for indoors. Both of these kites are rather limited on what they can do and it would be more pilot than kite.

How about the Skyburner I-Nak? Designed by Jon Trennepohl and Wayne Brunjes ?

I heard today that that is a very good kite and it also fits my needs very well and is about 5 foot 4 inches wide. I also heard that it can do lots of tricks too and really well.

What are your thoughts on this ?

my question is are you after more Indoor or Ultra Lite wind flying? are you just flying or all out trick flying (slack line)?

I use to have a Nik Nak but i found that it was very light and needed to guided more to complete an axel. I find that the Prism kites are a little more solid based on the Illusion and Vapor I use to have.

Weight...........2 5/8 ounces.

Problem is over here that we don't have a lot to choose from. There are only a few kites that fit my requirements. The INak by Jon Trennepohi et al seems to be a much better made kite, well from what I could tell. I wish that there was more info on them on U tube or whatever.
