Intro

I just wanted to introduce myself to the group.

History:
While traveling, I happened to purchase a 1.3 Symphony Beach for my son. I just picked it up as one of those things you throw at kids to see what sparks their interest. Well, we had a great time flying this thing at the beach this year, and I was surprised at my interest. So, on to the internet where I discovered that if big enough, these things can pull you around. On land, snow, and water no less. Well, who wouldn’t sign up for that? So after a month of research, I purchased a 3m Beamer IV. Thank you for all the insight Mr. Campbell. I have been flying this for about a month and constantly dream of the next bigger thing (5-6m lifty something or other, TBD end of the year)

I have been reading the forum since early September and have found a wealth of information in getting started with power kites. I just wanted to say thank you to all who take the time to post as it is a great benefit to those of us trying to catch up on the terms, tricks, and techniques. I must say I appreciate the tone of the group (little of the angry, contentious, infighting I associate with forums), a helpful group genuinely focused on the wellbeing of others in a sport with real risks and rewards.

Great group, thanks in for the info, and sorry in advance for the list of questions I am most likely going to ask. A forum will be a new experience for me, so if you see me posting something incorrectly, please don’t hesitate to give me a swift correction, I’m used to it.

Welcome to the addiction.

Only now will you notice that the wind only blows when you are at work. The minute you get off work and grab your kite .... the wind will die

Response to Dakitez:

Exactly... 2PM seems to be the best time of day.
One more reason to support the siesta.

Could somebody explain how to insert a quote from anothers post in my reply? Thanks.

top right hand corner of the post you want to quote you should see a quote button .... click it and it will quote that post and then you can add whatever you want to add.

greetings

"constantly dreaming of the next bigger thing " and soon "swift correction" arrives .

Labrat, i feel as though i am constantly dreaming and i am in complete wonderment of all that occurs right before my eyes, my most compelling desire is to know .....

who are all these people? and even more concerning , what are they doing in my dream!?!

in your dream, like mine i'm sure, the "quote " button has been found in the upper right had corner of posting box.

i use it sparingly because why get it right when you can make it up as you go along.

Welcome labrat! I was going to commend you and what a great job you did for your first kite, but you were cheating talking to Angus. Watch out, he was the first one I talked to as well. He's real friendly and then he starts loaning you stuff. Then you have to have it. It's only after 3+ years that I can see stuff for sale on here and not have my palms start to sweat. The kites are things of beauty and fun too. They will also improve your body shape (if it needs work).

seems like I've been outed as a ripstop crackdaddy.

Labrat's progressed real well with the kite, already flying in conditions that would intimidate many, but he shows good judgment with respect to risk management. I'm sure he'll bring a lot to the forum.

Thanks, I'll be watching for the opportunity. Lots to learn.

When I mentioned checking out Wildwood to my wife last weekend, she was the one to suggest how we might make it work next year. Time and schedule will tell.

Your first trip to Wildwood will be like your first day in a new school. But no bullies here. This is a great group of people with the same interests and goals. Not to mention most are as wacked out as me so we all get along well.
So welcome to the rubber room of kiting and absorb all the knowledge you can handle. It's more than a sport. It's a way of life and a HOOJ family.

Enter new kiter phase two...

NO WIND.

Slight depression. I know what a high pressure system feels like, but it is heavier than I remember.

Well, it has been a very good run. From the realization of a new sport to my last kite purchase, I almost had my pick of the day. Good thing, since I am too busy to just be “available”.
I did fly the 5m Apex (The kite curse dosen’t count) and the 3m is waiting until August (gift for the boy), but it was a stormy day (all I did was compare it to the ARC and the boy got supermanned for the first time on the 2m Beamer).
+1 for ARC’s (Stupid bridle hung up on luffs, spun the crap out of it (this really entertained the boy), good bit of time getting the lines sorted). To be fair, the ARC is my first depower and 15m, so I don’t push crap days... yet. Flyjump has increased my optimisum of what I can hold down, and not responsible for the results.

No worries though. We have options while we wait.
