Obsession

I truly hope I'm not the only one who sees stretches of water or beaches on TV shows and assesses the area for launching and landing or tries to judge just what size kite I'd be unpacking if I was there .........

:ticking:

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

Or how dense is the shorebird population? Is that green slime algae, or goose poo? Will I get a "shower" every time I approach a flock of seagulls? Will some crazy think I'm trying to scare away the plovers???

So I shouldn't feel guilty about taking my wife for a long walk on a beach, we've never been, (which she thought was romantic), just to test the sand and wind quality for my board?:crazy::crazy:

There's a km of beach I'm not allowed to buggy on because of those blasted plovers!! Every time a flock of them takes off in front of me I get paranoid about running them down.

I was going to put some plover 'stickers' with a red cross through them on the buggy (ie: Red Baron/number of kills) but that idea was looked upon in horror! Must be my weird English sense of humor (yes, I live in Aus and am in fact a keen birdo)

And I've also spent a couple hours on Google Earth scoping out some great beaches. And I found this: 360 degree view of beach at Kingston (drag cursor around to rotate the view)

I'm also a keen photographer but I've never seen a spherical 360 degree panorama before. I was very impressed. This is about 160km (100 miles) of beach from Kingston to the mouth of the Murray River. I don't know if it's all buggyable but I intend to find out! We have a meet there in January.

Obsession? Yeah, probably. I think about kites more than I think about sex :o

I'm definitely guilty of this for sure. Funny thing though I started watching Burn Notice a few months back and when the scenes of the Miami beaches were shown I thought hmmmm that would be a nice place to kite. Two minutes later they showed a man kiteboarding with a Cabrinha kite. They show kiteboarding quite actually!!:P

Everytime I go out to the wind farms to work on the turbines, I keep trying to figure out how I can fly my kite around the wind turbines without snagging my lines on the blades. :singing: The wind is a steady 40mph sometimes in Palm Springs. Sux to be surrounded by wind all day and can't take advantage of it.

"Hmm those big-time drug-dealers have house with those big front yards fronting directly onto the ocean, I bet you could launch from there and just ride on out ... wonder how to get into the drug business?"
