short summary : the goggles are made by Zeal Optics and the GPS unit was created by Recon Instruments a BC based company here.
The current model available in one week and will begin shipping for the X-mas season (i got mine). There are currently two version available, but its
only the LENS not the unit itself.
there is the short video from today (october 29 / 2010) at the HQ getting me stuff.
if you're thinking maybe ill hold off, i will say that there is a lot more store NEXT year as most things are still in develops. what are those things
you speak of?
they plan to make a mtn bike version so that will be out spring / summer 2011 with a smaller frame, i've seen the prototype one and its looking good.
also they plan to bind the gps unit to other Goggle / Sunglass brands so if you didn't like the Zeal ones, maybe in future you'll see one on an
Oakley.
also in the plans is a side mount camera smaller than the gopro as well. i have to say this company will be pumping out a lot new hightech tiny
gadgets.
honestly this thing ROCKS. its so stupid proof, even Dino can use it. Turn it on and the GPS does the rest. the only thing you're doing is cycling
through what you want to see.
it can tell when you moving and not moving or gaining height, etc etc. so anything less than 0 km/m it will not read, but once moving its working.
also the cool thing i like that Garmin Connect does is your can replay your tracks on PC / MAC. and it shows your all your stats on the right side.
you can quickly post to twitter and facebook right from there.
my thoughts, at first i thought it was going to be a heads up display kind of like driving a F1 Fighter, but its in the lower corner and when you
focus its actually correctly placed where you can see yourself flying and the gps at the same time. do i think its worth the money, i would say YES if
you're after any type of speed or height. looking down is the worst feeling at 100 km/h because you're slowing down to look even if you dont think
about it.
seem of us that enjoy racing will notice there is a timer on it. but for racing starts we need a countdown timer, so for the first Firmware update
based on me, there will be countdown to come.
okay you all want one now so here is the COM part. you can pick one up from either our Canada (BC) or USA (Oregon / California) location. PKF
discounts will apply here. hehehe.
i saw a magazine at their HQ (cant remember Snowboarder something like that) and it was already talking that this would be one of the top best gifts
for the winter season.
what if you crack the lens, Zeal has a great replacement program.
