Flying unhooked

I've seen a lot of videos of people doing this. Any time I try, since the kite is fully powered it backstalls and won't even get off the ground. If I do get it off the ground, it just wants to stall and fall to the ground.

Shorten the trim strap? More wind?

One thing I noticed is that many seem to stay hooked in while cruising along and then when they go for a jump they quickly unhook and do their handle passes or whatever they are attempting. Once done they hook back in.

really depower throught the trim ...plus maybe a knot or 2 close to the kite. shorten the main if you use it a lot.
