Kitewing for higher windspeeds??

anybody tried a kitewing ??

they look to be pretty fun in nuking winds, maybe winds Where One might Decide that launching a powerkite is a bad idea.. Anybody got any feedback on these ??

... 6 more weeks till Bone healed and Walking again, and now that there's snow on the ground my thoughts are of Kiting on the frozen lakes.... and of more kites and possiblly A kitewing.

Thanks for any feedback.

I know that there's a couple of people around here who've used them. Kamikuza springs to mind first, but I know he's not the only one.

You rang? :D

I like mine in big and gusty wind ... needs more wind to get moving initially but they're VERY easy to depower and have a good 'modulation' ... in smooth wind they'd be mad fast I bet.

This is my first wind-sports anything session after breaking my wrist a couple of month earlier ... note the wrist wraps for protection :) and that was a gusty as area but I didn't get freaked out

The other good thing is you can just hang on with your finger tips ... cos if you do the White Knuckle Death Grip things can go wrong ...

Oh that's not the Superman I did later - big gust, didn't let go, went flying.

Buy that one Garydog is selling FFS you won't get a cheaper one!!!

Yeah... I got a kite. Or two...

I take out the kitewing when it seems to windy (or gusty) for a kite. There are two dealers in Calgary. I think Jill did a demo or two out at Ghost Lake.

The kitewing was my entry into wind sports about 10 years ago. Used the wing on ice with hockey skates, then moved to 21" Nordic skates for stability.
Been to the soccer field with Coyote skates a few times recently, but slower and bumpy..not as fun as smooth ice.
My first kites came a few years ago (4m Scout and 4.8 NPW5) when I found kites need far less wind. Learning curve of the Kitewing is far easier then kiting, and SAFER.

At 180lbs, My 5.5 needs a steady 15+ on ice and 20+ on the soccer field to get going. Like Kami said, a light grip will let the wing react to wind changes. When overpowered either head upwind, flatten the wing, or let go. Mine rarely gets used since building a kite quiver, but it still has it's place. 25-35mph winds is the sweet spot.

Here is video of Team Rider Pati Blom from Finland. He's a lightweight and makes the jumps look too easy.

Video of our local spot pulling my son in a sled a few years ago. At 3:20 got hit with a gust and had to eject.

Prarriewind was kind enough to pass on a " skatewing " to me when he moved up to kitewing! I have yet to master it but thanks to him I have a choice when out and the rest are on ice buggies. 2 sizes of sail . If you come from a windsurf background you may like these?

Kites: 2.5m Profoil , Quadrifoil XL kitesurfer, NPW 5 Danger.
Flexifoil: 1.7m Sting, 4.9m Blade 3, 9m Blade 2.

Yowza, As usual I am Amazed By the Great responses that htis forum gives.

That Parking lot Is HUGE kami, And unfortuneatelly I'm poor right now and Saving money Whilst I mend bone To afford a larger depower kite as I'm more stoked towards Kiting and Currentlly Only have a hydra 3.5 to fly with, But recentlly HAve been talking to a buddy ( who is a windsurfer ) about alternatives to the whole mast and sail and I came across these things... They look to be a blast on snow also with wind permitting, But since they seem to be the same price as A decent de[power and harness I figure I'll stay on that track for now.... Still I may have to get ahold of the Guys doing the Ghost lake demos and Give one a go.

They Surely do Look more interesting than windsurfing ( which I did long ago )
