Need help attaching HQ Control Bar Harness Strap

Hey everyone,

I just picked up my first trainer kite a Hydra 350 and got a HQ Control Bar Harness Strap (D-loop) to attach it to a harness.

Hoping someone could verify the proper way to attach the D-Loop to the control bar. There are short velcro straps with holes in the middle of them. If I just use the velcro straps it does not seem very strong. I can grab the control bar with one hand and the D-Loop with the other and easily yank them apart. On the other hand the holes in the straps themselves don't appear to be big enough to slide over the ends on the control bar.

Has anyone used this and can tell me what I'm doing wrong, it has an emergency quick release but I'm not sure what the point of that is if the velcro straps detach so easily.

Thanks

Pictures = 1000 words, sometimes.

See if this helps.

If that still doesn't help, let me know.... I have an older Control Bar Harness Strap that came with an older setup I bought. No quick release, so I never used it, but the actually connection setup is the same I believe. I would just have to dig it up to take more pics if it came down to it.

Sam

Thanks a bunch - That picture should help a lot. I did not think to try it like that, i'll give it a shot tomorrow. If thats the way it is supposed to attach it really should have come with an illustration.

Here is a similar set-up. If you take the plastic-tubing covered rope, with the web loop on the end, and push the web covered end thru the web loop, it will form a larkshead, which you then slip the bar through like this.

Then you pull on the plastic covered rope until the 'larkshead' tightens around the bar, then the velcro strips will line up, and you press them together like this.

Yeah this is not intuitive. I need to create instructions for these.
You can give me a call and I can walk you through it, but it sounds like the gang here has you on your way (thanks all).

I meant to add this to my post last night, but it's been a long two days and I was just glad to get everyone safely home.

If this is your first trainer, DO NOT < insert blinking lights and penguins with semaphore flags here > use the Control Bar Harness Strap to hook into a harness in anything remotely resembling gusty winds or the middle/upper wind range of the kite.

The quick release on the strap is not something covered in womb training and will take time to ingrain in your muscle memory.

Until (and even) then, the lag between when things go South or when a gust catches you and the time it takes to deploy the safety will directly determine the amount of grass stains on your clothes, amount and size of abrasion holes in said clothes, and the size and lividity of the black and blue marks you will have to explain to loved ones and acquaintainces.

Go easy.... grass burns sting more in the cold.

ATB,
Sam

P.S. This post is officially partying likes it's.... 1999

Wow most helpful forum ever

@indigo_wolf

Thanks again for the link, very helpful. Two years ago I went out a few times with a friend of mine who had a trainer kite and a 7 meter montana. So I have a little experience but have to relearn again, but I will certainly heed your warning and advice.

@bobalooie57

Thank you for taking the time to add more images, the more I see the more it make sense, I'm almost starting to feel dumb for not seeing it right away.

@acampbell

Thanks, I'll call you if I have any problems, a picture or diagram would have been useful for novices like myself. Hope you don't mind me borrowing the product image off of your site.

Don't feel bad for not seeing it right off, I remember it took me a while to figure it out also, only I'm using the 'D' loop as a strop, between 2 handles (I know, not the safest option), but then I rarely use the strop anyway.
