landboard on soft sand?
Hey, I just picked up a landboard this fall, but all the beaches around me are pretty soft...
anyone have any ideas for how to modify the wheels/trucks to help it go on a soft beach... ???
besides just giving up and getting a buggy... I think the wife would kill me if i even suggested getting any more toys.

even with massive tires, landboards just don't work well on soft sand.
fixed bridles, flying static, been two years now... ??? folks must be wondering....
sting 1.7, dp power 2.5, crossfire 3.2, ace 5, blade iv 6.5, ace 8, ace 12...
also a couple of arcs, 12 syn and 12 phanny, but i\'m not yet up to speed on them.

sorry to say there isnt much out there.... you can modify a board with granny-scooter wheels, but that requires new or modified trucks and prob
wouldnt be that much fun anyway
buggies are the way to go for soft ground... trust me, i have tried it

dylan is right, best thing you can do is stay close to the water where the sand is hard-pack.

Jeff- what is the tide like where you would like to go? If it's a big tide with a nice packed area when tide is low, then that will be your best
option. If you don't have any tidal action and have to go on the loose sand at all times, buggy is really the best option, sorry to say.
Tide? What's a tide? Man, it's 1000 miles to any ocean.

Does the turf at your local soccer field freeze? It may be hard enough to get some good riding, provided there is wind. Pad up, though. Be safe!
have fun.

What I made is a sand board. It is more for going downhill,I tried it w/ a kite but could not hold an edge against the wind, so it is of no use
kiting. I landboard on lowtide hardpack, when I get pulled to the 'soft' stuff, the board becomes an anchor.
You could try these tires, they are bigger but would fit I believe, but man is that gonna be a heavy board!

"By the end of the session i'm max out at 44+kph on the completly soft sand and am throwing a massive sand wake like i do on the water kitesurfing."
-Plummet (6m access)
"I'm using standard trispoke hubs that i've spaced out a further 15mm. if you get big tyres you need the grooves for the sand! also it will increase
your height and yourl need to stiffen your trucks as the leverage ratio has changed."
I would PM/U2U Plummet (on KiteCrowd on ExtremeKites) to get more details if you want to go down this path....
The 15 mm spacer and corresponding bolts shouldn't be a deal breaker. He mentions "stiffening your trucks", but I take that to mean adjusting the
tension rather than having to do any axle tweaking.
The only fly in the ointment is that Plummet runs a custom carbon deck which probably has a fairly narrow tip. The tip width on MBS boards probably
wouldn't work, but you might be able to get away with it without incurring wheel bite on some of the GI boards.
On the other hand, this could just be another case of inherent British madness and penchent of hooliganism. :o

For what it's worth...I had a some 10"x3" wheels on my board and it was great on the hard pack but when it got a little 'slushy' even those wheels
wouldn't help. It was then that I brought out the buggy....got a dirtsurfer too and didn't even try...wheels were way too skinny!

in all honesty ATB and soft sand is a no.
and with big tires the board really becomes super clumsy and useless
