Hi,

I am kind of beginner in powerkiting. In short I would like to start landboarding / snowkite. I already have one old small 4-line Peter Lynn 2m kite and confident with it in all conditions ...

Now, I would like to buy new kites mostly for very low wind conditions and higher wind.... in order to cover most of the conditions and be able to have both kites in backpack.

I am 150 pounds and after checking on Internet I am considering buying:
- Ozone Frenzy 11m
- Ozone Access 6m

(Probably on begin will start only with Access 6m in low wind to get used and then switch to Frenzy 11m in low wind ...

I'd appreciate if somebody with similar weight and if he has already similar kites to give me advice if those two are good choice or to consider different sizes ?

6m Access is a nice kite - pretty gentle and the XT models turn very quickly so they perform better in lighter winds than the old model. Should produce some power from 13 knots plus (a bit of guess, my old 6m XC needed 15 knots, but the newer ones perform much better). My 4m XT gets me buggying in 17 knots and is still friendly at 30.

The 11m Frenzy is a fairly big step up, but they do have excellent depower - I've only flown the 9m FYX in 12-16 knots and it had heaps of power. If you really like the 6m Access XT, you could also grab a 10m - it should be a bit more forgiving and a little less lifty than the Frenzy. Mind you, by then, you may want the extra lift

John's advice is right on the money and it sounds like you got it figured out to, I weigh 155 and the 6 is a real fun kite from 15 on up ,but that 11frenzy gets pretty lively in 15mph and up but if your young and tough it will be a blast on snow.Enjoy

oh yea forgot to mention, both those kites pack up nice and small so easy to pack both in one pack with bars and lines,carry one while flying the other if conditions change, as they often do in the backcountry, switch kites and carry on.

Yes, my idea is to have less kites as possible, but to cover most of the conditions maybe more for snowkite then landboarding, .. and be able to put in backpack both ... also this is why I chose to go for de-power sooner, since anyways later will end up with them ... also, I am seeing that many people have multiple kites more then 3, so I hope would be better on begin to figure out what is best or final combination, instead of trying and buying all around ... and on the end end up with 5-6 kites what I am seeing people what have in their signatures on all various forums ... that seems more expensive then choosing right stuff on begin even looks more expensive on first look ... Also, I don't think I will go kiting in really high wind in that case would rather walk around or go windsurfing so, I guess from that point better access 6m then access 4m and now for low wind another kite could be access 10m or frenzy 11m ... think about frenzy 11m more because of snowkiting in low wind conditions which will be more the case ... and per Ozone windchart they should overlap ... so those two sounds like some good combination to keep 2 kites only ... but anyways will take some more time to decide ... thanks again for your advices

Keep in mind that unless the snow is deep or wet you can get by with a smaller kite on a relatively frictionless snow / ice surface. I ride on frozen lakes and when there is little snow or a frozen snow / ice mix, you don't need a whole lot of kite to get moving on that. I weigh 145 and ride a 10 , 6, 4m combo - see sig below.

At the ocean I can ride my 10m upto around 18mph comfortably. If the winds are bumpy or inland, I put it away somewhere between 12 and 15. Better to be slightly underpowered and work the kite then way overpowered and nervous or just holding on, IMO.

An 11 meter will offer you a fixed bridle range of 4.4 to 6.6 meterish combo
A 9 will be equivalent to a 3.6 - 4.5 combo
A 6 will be like a 2.4 - 3.6 combo

So there is a tighter grouping on the 9/6 combo assuming roughly 40-60% depower.

The access frenzy combo will be a real solid quiver for snowkiting and landboarding. If you choose to try buggy they will work for that too. (6m access real nice smooth buggy rides) The multiple kites quiver really boils down to variety in conditions, discipline,(land water snow ice) and as you will soon learn, the love of flying all kinds of kites. Each one brings a different flying experience and that drives most of us to do what we can to get our hands on as many kites as we can. I fully understand though trying to find the right combo before purchasing as this passion can get real expensive. Soon you'll be looking at all things kitey, saying to yourself "the missus won't notice if there's another kite in the closet if I send her to the spa/ buy her a nice bracelet.:frog:"

Thanks! many good info and inputs. I guess will take access 6m first then slowly decide and will see if next one will be Frenzy 11m or maybe 9m.... I expect that for begin Frenzy 9m will be better, and 11m will be much, but actually later with experience 11m will be better for low wind... so, on long term most likely 11m will win... in order keep 2kites... ) hopefully ))

- Only reason, why deciding on begin is more important to get right sizes, since I see kite equipement similar to climbing equpment. For example I will never buy second hand ropes for climbing. I see similar with kite here ... If you don't know history of kite buying second hand could be dangerous. I did read that for example warranty for Ozone chicken loop is 250hours. Also, I have experiance with Dyanema from climbing, so I guess similar with lines in kiting you need to be careful ... So, this is why I see this passion even more expensive if buying new is safest way, but also good decision on begin cost less
