On the beach, its cool that you can cover miles or set out for a destination, go there and ride back home with just the wind.

We started flying kites in the 80's. Stunt kites were the thing and we started to stack kites for "more power". We started getting pulled down the
beach and thought that was great fun. After a few years of doing that it started getting boring. About that time we saw an article on kite buggies
and tried them at the AKA convention in Seside, OR in 1993. As a result we bought our first buggy and traction kite before we got back home.
Being able to use the wind to go down the beach and back was the greatest thrill. We we're never part of the go fast crowd, we just like to get out
an cruise. Even after all of the years we've been buggying we still enjoy being pulled by the wind!
We purchased a land sailor several years ago, but still enjoy buggies.

I used to fish and do boating sports alot. Every time you go, it cost more money on top of the purchase price. With kiting, you just need the
initial investment and the fun keep coming and it's environmentally friendly!!

definitely ALL OF THE ABOVE! I grew up riding horses and Dirt bikes.. I remember seeing the flexifoil stacker kites on miami vice and at
the beach once or twice in the 80s,didn't think much of it. But when I saw a kitebuggy on the internet back in 2005,I literally said outloud" I'm
gonna buy one of those and I'm gonna build one of those!".
Little did I know it was gonna be"A bunch of those and more than sevaral of the other"
I fell in love with Traction Kiting on sight, wish it had been around when I was young.
And I have met some really awesome folks too.

most certainly all of the above. My good friend got me interested in 2007, when we met. After he told me bout it, I went home and looked it up. It
took almost three more years to be sure I wanted to give it a go. I always wanted a quad or bike, but everyone here does that and all I here is how
things are breaking down all the time. I'm sure if I got the air time my kite gear would break down to, but its way cheaper. As mentioned Once you got
the gear, the only other money you put in is the gas to get to your kite spot. Oh yeah, and if I spent what some spend on a quad, sled, or bike; I,
would have an awful lot of gear (or a lot of memories from kiting trips)
what I fly/ride:

12m Flysurfer Speed2
6m Ozone access xt
1.5m Ozone imp trainer

152cm lib tech skate banana

I think it 'cos I like being in motion. I don't mind long drives in the car. I've done the motor bike thing but it's a little expensive. Used to
bushwalk a lot but not for a while now. Always enjoyed stunt kites but when I saw a kitebuggy I thought 'no way...that's gotta be coooool'.
Being able to fly and zip along the beach at the same time....thank you, that'll do very nicely. No noise, no pollution, no impact and as safe as I
want it to be (I just fly smaller kites than everyone else...
I saw a post by Sand Yeti once saying how he'd done over 10,000km in a buggy and thought 'alright - I'm gonna log all my trips and I'm gonna see if I
can do 10,000km. It'll take me a few more years but I'm gonna do it!
Can't really think of anything I'd rather be doing.......

I like exploring the beach, knowing that the topography and features are different with every new tide.
Love a good 10 mph breeze, still a good ride at about 30+ mph but not too much work for this lazy guy.
Love ghosting by people and wondering which ones will notice or even care less about by presence and which will go nuts and can't wipe the grin off
their faces. Somehow an odd satisfaction passing close by someone asleep in their chair, slumped over with a book about to fall off their lap,
knowing they never knew I was there.
Then there is buzzing and taunting, then outrunning the State Police on patrol in their 4x4 truck. They seem to get a kick out of it too.
Goosing the occasional Tern in the arse with my lines when I fly up behind them.
Dislike: Loose big dogs with their hot drooling, growling breath inches from the back of my head as I desperately try to accelerate away. So far, I
always win.

Living out the childhood dream.
I lost 3 important people in a row and was feeling low. One of the 3 was my adrenalin Buddy. HE was all about his stunt kite but I didn't get it. He
turned me on to Cory Rossler and what he was doing with kiteski. He worked in a textiles place and was always talking about these " foil kites " and
saying he was going to make one. He had amazing forsight and said he would use his foil to snowkite. We lived our lives as though we would burn out at
40 and poor Steve did. What a shame He couldn't keep it together. I was feeling pretty low and in Spring 04 I turned to this kiting thing instead of
going for anti-depresants. Turned out to be just the " Pill " . I have to wonder if it wouldn't have saved Steve?
Steve was diagnosed ADHD in school. I was too old but it's just a given, I am ! I am certain that kiting is good for the condition. I recommend
anybody with kids that are as well get them into the sport.
Now I Kite to keep my sanity !!!!! and I haven't gotten out much lately. :ticking:

Life is funny.
Once all that was over life has been a joy ride ! I don't think kiting has everything to do with it but I found passion for it and life. PASSION seems
to be key !
Well.... steady employment has also been nice ?

Lots of responses, I kite board because of the freedom and all the sensations that come with it. I do it because of the ability to somewhat harness
natures power. I like the speed, quiet nature of gliding over a flat spot, consistent learning curve, solidarity, HUGE FLOATY JUMPS, no better
feeling besides, you know....

I started landboarding 'cos there ain't no snow here in August (but we somehow seem to get a bit of it every other month )
Skiing in bottomless powder is about the only other sport that gives me the same mix of all of the above, but one heli trip can buy a whole quiver.
With kiting almost every session is the whole meal deal. :wee:
