Weird line question ...

2.8mm is a bit thick for what I want ... pull 2 or 3 strands out to thin it a bit - will it simply be 5/8th as strong or completely ruined?

I would say ruined. The braid is spun a particular way; removing part of the braid might not hold the other strands as well.

If there was no braid, all the strands parallel, then I would think no problem.

Huh! Seems 3mm is the smallest they got :(
What should I use as a 500lb B.L. core?

This is the only thing less than 3mm by Samson ...

2.5mm is what I'm using at the moment I bet and ...

... we're back to the original problem - availability :( $45 for the Samson line in the link - fine I can live with that - and $30-45 dollars for shipping  I think not.

Kami -

Do a search on 'Jerry Brown Line" and see if you find a vendor that works for you. I bought mine from Mahi Tackle in California: http://www.mahitackle.com/jb500.html

I've been using their 500# and 800# Spectra 'hollow core' single braid for bridles and linesets, and it is MUCH cheaper than yachty line or Q-power. Has an identical hand to several linesets I have - very supple.

I do recommend pre-stretching.

Kami -

Anchor it at one end, then hook it to your harness and lean into the lines. Or use a pipe throught he loop and lean into it.

Kami, you will want to find someone around that is on the heavy side, to really lean into it and give the line a good set. :cool2::cool:

i stretched mine by tying to a tree and my pickup truck. the truck tightened it up, then i got out and stood on the line and bounced to stretch more...500' roll turned into like 520' :)
