Moving to Vegas!
In the last week, we found out that me and my family are being transferred away from NorCal. Of all the places in the US, that we could end up, we
are moving to Las Vegas, NV. Yes, I will be living within a half hour of Ivanpah Dry lake, and there are seemingly dozens of other dry lakes to be
explored as well. Over the spring, we will be choosing a house, selling ours and transitioning there after my sons get out of school and wind up
other obligations. In addition to the kite buggy mecca I will have easy access to, there is immeasurable opportunities for boating and kayaking on
lake Mead, kiteboarding on lake Mojave, and countless places to hike and ride bikes in the desert scenery.
With any move you look forward to the things that you are getting, but always there is something to move away from. We live close to my wife's family
here and just like moving away from Pokitetrash, Phreerider, tridude, Angus, Mel and the rest of the East Coast crew, I will miss riding with Dakitez,
Screwyfits, AD72, Flexiblade and the other sodfarm crew that me and the boys have had so much fun riding with. They have always welcomed me and the
boys into their riding culture here and I guess like most kiters seem to be, we happily shared equipment with each other and always had fun riding
together.
Something tells me our guest room will need reservations, but that will be cool to have friends coming in to ride in buggy heaven. Nabx will have a
whole new perspective now knowing I will soon be able to ride at Ivanpah any time I have a few extra hours.
Also, since I'll be able to ride so much more, look for many more posts where I share my experiences on the lakebed with speed, and equipment in
varying conditions. Think of it as my own dry and dusty version of Phreerider's "Daily Grind". Who knows what my internal speed limit will become.
Riding there many times per week will surely let me expand my skills and the riding location will hardly ever impose any limitations on me. I feel
really lucky to have this opportunity and intend to share with you what I learn.

It is said that the only people who truly welcome change are wet babies and revolutionaries, but this sounds like a positive move on a variety of
levels.
And so much space!

The buggy battle has always been where to ride and is it ok to ride there. Here I am moving to a place that is miles of buggy park in every
direction, that is designated by the bureau of land management as a wind powered vehicle only area. I already have the permit.

I am not sure this is a move so much as another leg of the Beamer Bob US Tour. Didn't you just move out to CA in the last year or so?
At this rate, I think you should get a head start and have Kam start lining up fields and houses in the Shiga area.
You probably have to make a stop in Guam and visit with SecondWind for a bit first.

Yes, Sam we moved here Christmas '09.
I've kept my old skis if I ever live around a frozen lake.
Niagara Falls NY is a potential relo spot, as well as the Mobile Alabama area. All offer new kiting adventures and opportunities. We should be in
Vegas for 2-5 years if things take a normal path.

I look forward to spending much more time with you Bobby! The LV Gang will enjoy your company. It also looks like this HERO buggy I have here may
just stay around for a bit longer till you get here permanently....lol
You may want to pick yourself up a PL Comp XR+ for those buggy tag days....the big buggies make to easy a target. Also, if you haven't partied on
Ivanpah under a full moon you are in for a real treat!
It's gonna be great that your here!!!

I was in Reno this week on business. NV is nice. Wish I had my kites and my skis. Didn't get a chance to see Vegas but you've got Kent down there
and a desert and wind so all should be well and if you want to ski, come north.
Good luck!

It was good hanging out with you while you were around Norcal Bob. Here's to some hardcore tracks to be laid out in the desert - and a new
appreciation to the wear and tear grass puts on a set of tires.

Thanks Arkay. Why do you say that? The rules pretty much say to go for it as long as its dry. Yes there are lots of lakes to ride on. Ivanpah is
great because you aren't sharing the space with others.

BR, this California stint was not normal. Just 14 months. Our first stop was 14 years, then 6. We are hoping to get my little (taller than his mom
already) 6th grader out of high school before moving again.
I got to visit AJ last fall. We went to the beach one day and he was able to ride in the surf while I buggied a little before the rain came. Great
guy for sure. I pulled lots of advice from him before figuring out the kiteboarding.

Thanks Flexi. I'm grateful to have gotten in so much time with you and the norcal crew. I could keep up with the lazboy but don't think I ever had
any advantage riding with you. Thanks for the miles.
I've never worn out a set of tires but that might all change now. I'm set right now with 2 sets of slicks and a set of barrows. With the bigger
buggy, I'll put more stress on them for sure on the desert floor.

Pokite, this is a test to see if I can get to the point where I'm just not interested in doing the whole 30 minute drive to Ivanpah and having all
those miles to drive around in the buggy. And all that speed is so annoying!
You remember when I was driving in there for the first time and gave you the play by play over the phone as I came off the mountain and Ivanpah came
into view? I'm more excited than that and it doesn't even seem real yet. I'll have 3 days at nabx which is as much about the people as it is the
riding, but won't really get to just have a random day on the playa till June or July with the move and Summer vacation travel. I mentioned to the
wife that for a vacation we could just go out on the lakebed and us boys could ride and she could sit under an umbrella and read and I'd even fix her
frozen fruity drinks. Imagine the look I got. I think I spent all my
wife-going-to-kite points that time when we went to an event at Jekyll Island on our anniversary. At least she thought that was her idea.

Yea, I just got a new motorhome (new to me anyway) and I talked to my wife about all the good times we can ALL have at Jekyll or Folly in the camper
and she got her neck swivel thing (with a finger in my face) going so fast that it sounded like a whip going through the air a bunch of times! The whipping sound drowned out whatever she was saying but Im sure it wasnt PG.
