peter lynn replacement spars

I ordered thes from TAP Plastic online:

1ea sku 02754 od .414 x .337 x 54.5" epoxy tubein $7.35
4ea sku 02766 od .505 x .417 x 54.5" epoxy tubing $8.00

you can use either spar. I use the larger spar and have been using them for a few years now. the smaller i use to make a ferrule and join two pieces of the larger spar--perfect fit. 2 piece spars that won't corrode! glue one side if you want to hold the ferrule in place. i just use a little electrical tape.

I always order extras because of the shipping charge--$15.59 for this order.

How durable are they? Are they plenty stiff? What do you put on the ends?

not straight stiff like carbon fiber--they will give a little but not bendy like tent pole. they don't splinter on impact like carbon fiber. they will break if stepped on. I take a small washer slightly larger in diameter and tape it to the ends to prevent poke through of the pockets. I have also used just tape (electrical) which works too.

I'm guessing that you could have a decent ammount of flex without hurting performance. No real idea or way to measure it though :)

I wonder if it breaks sharp, I wouldn't want the edges to cut the fabric, albiet it's heavy duty.

I peronsally hate end caps. I constantly lose them in the spar pocket. I tried glueing them but found that it doesn't work so I just made the ends of the bungee larger so that there is no chance of it falling in; not that it's a big deal. I believe the bungee is primarily for storage and ease of removal, and from experience it's not that hard to remove a spar piece. End caps are a pain to get out :flaming:

First thing I do when I get an arc is tape the end caps on with electrical tape. They never get stranded in the bottom of the pocket that way.

Arkay I've played around with Chargers and uber flexy spars. Makes for some interesting handling in some ways but if they're too flexy and you drive it to aggressively you get a collapse.

It's fun to watch. You can totally see it just before it goes.

I've been using two sky-shark carbon tubes just taped together! They work fine but have to be careful launching not to snap the rods! They are super flexible and light! Diffefently help on lighter wind days!...........aj
