With all the kiting talent on this forum and all the great accomplishments its members have attained (sponsorships, comps) it's quite intimidating to
be a Noob and not feel like I'll ever get to that level with my kiting.
and that's OK...
Because my hockey team just qualified to represent the New England region in the USA Hockey National Championships in Detriot, MI during the first
week of April
Let's GO Rhode Island Panthers!
*Update*
So now that I've had time to recoup and look at all the footage, I put together what I hope is a pretty decent collection of clips that represent that
whole trip. But, before I unveil to the team, I'd love you're feedback since there are many video lovers out there!

Well... Lying here in bed in Detroit and getting ready to leave at (gulp) 4am for the 17 hr drive back, I was thinking how much I wish I had an extra
day here with my quiver and ATB/buggy.
There are SO many patches of flat land around here to kite on!!!
Just had to mention how jealous I was of the terrain around these parts and how much it got me looking forward to WW in a few weeks!
BTW - we were eliminated by Missouri but we only had 8 skaters so not too bad to come in 9th in the country plus we killed New Jersey 9-1 so not too bad a showing

Congrats! ..............Fantastic video, really
conveys a sense that it was a great trip..... Do you have any footage of the game to stick in there?

Nice one! I'd be very pleased with myself if I had made something that entertaining. I would only make 2 suggestions - the first (and I'm being
really, really nit-picky) a couple of the pans felt odd when they cut off someone's head - maybe keep the face as the focal point unless your moving
to something specific. (from eye to puck or something like that...) and second, I keep a mental note when I see a film or someone else's video that I
really like - why did I like it, how fast the cuts were, fade or straight cut, composition of shot etc etc. I try to learn by watching - I've been
keen with a camera for 30 years but I'm the first to admit I really don't have 'the eye' for it.
With my stills I try to look for something interesting in the foreground that leads the eye to the subject - not that I succeed very often, but it's
fun trying.
Secondly John got to it before I did... do this next session at a practice session
Very well put together. I enjoy a video that captures both pictures and video. You have captured the entire team at what they do, have fun and get
down to business. What setting were you using (GoPro) and I believe you said that the editing was done through movie maker. Is that correct? Sorry I
missed this first go around but that’s what a hospital stay will do for you
As for not getting any game footage, we got some, but it was very anti-climatic and after all was said and done, the stills ended up looking better
for the team montage portion.
The games were actually streamed online if you bought a membership - wish I had that footage. Funny enough, the sound caught many a Chud F-bomb during
play
Todd- love the puck cam! I did wear mine during in-game warmups on the chest harness but the footage was anything but spectacular. I need a better
angle next time for sure.
I used the 1080p/30fps setting and iMovie (which I will NEVER use again due to the degradation and color banding of images and vid). Upon importing
footage/images into iMovie, it totally compresses the source file and creates crappy gradients and such. Looks like it's time to get my learning on
with Final Cut.
I also recorded a "Clean" version without the Eminem MF bombs so we can use as a promotional video online. We hope it will recruit some talent for
next year's season.
Thanks for viewing and sharing your comments - much appreciated!
Definitely add many angles as possible, possibly a helmet mount and goal net mount? I know they probably wouldn't allow this during a real game but
even a suction cup mount on the glass looking down upon the goal (great wide angle action shots) Get cracking on the final cut and let that GoPro
shine!
Hey chudalicious, I think you did a great job capturing your team's spirit and essence. I am stuck with windows movie maker, which works, but can
really be a pain. It doesn't help that I am learning all this tech "on the fly"(he, he) as when I grew up we still played with sticks and rocks on
the local (frozen) pond, not video games, etc.(computers took up a whole room way back then) Heck, I still haven't figured out how to incorporate
still photo's in my movies! lol So I loved your video, eminem and all.(I actually find him entertaining and relevent) And I really think it's great
that the smallest state in the country is ranked 9th in Womens Hockey, and I wonder how you get through a game without a fistfight breaking out? Very

Can't say I haven't thought about it I need all the confidence I can get!
(Though I would get some crazy looks wondering "when did that hockey player parachute in?!")
Crazy looks is what you get when you put on a helmet that has a funnel glued to the back to improve aerodynamics , do not fear they will get over it.

Just a thought: check it's not just a 'proxy' file. My video editor will reduce any files over a certain size to 'orrible little proxy files - but
only for editing. So while I'm doing the editing, the files look like rubbish. When I push the render-to-video file button, it will then use the
original hq file. (takes it half an hour to render a 10 minute clip!!!)
Hi John,
Anderson here (Kristen's fiance)... we've exported from iMovie and still no luck. Tried Quicktime and all the settings but when it exports it, it is
still awful. We found a few discussions on it as well. Looks like Apple dropped the ball with iMovie alright.

Well, wouldn't be the first time Apple's dropped the ball. I don't have a mac or iMovie so I really don't know what it can and can't do but I don't
believe it's an expensive program...?
What I would be inclined to do is to find some demo programs - most of the major manufacturers have a free trial available and you can also get them
on the disks the come with Video magazines. They may have watermarks on them until you pay, but at least you get to see which ones you like. Final
cut or Premier Elements would be worth a look. If Vegas will run on a mac give it a look too. (Todd does an excellent job with Vegas).
I don't know what Nataly, from Pomplamoose uses, but they do a pretty fair job of 'amateur' video!!!
Alas, once March is done we go into a typically grey and windless spell, then it gets wet, cold and miserable with poor tides. The local club is
reforming under a new title so there should be a few get togethers July onwards. But if the opportunity presents itself.... Actually, I am going to try and get some video of Spartan on his kite
skates soon.
