anyone know tires

I drive a 05' Pathfinder that is due for a new set of rubber. I've been searching around and narrowed it down to two choices:

1)Goodyear Fortera Tripletred
2) Nokian WRG-2 SUV

I have no clue about either of these tires, other than both were recommended to me. I live in the Canadian prairies, which means I see any type of road condition you can imagine. I don't offroad other than pulling into a snow filled field to go kiting and through a meadow to get to the kiting lake. Both seem like great tires from reviews, but not sure which would be a better pick. Any help is appreciated.

Thanks
Shaggs

I've moved toward Nokian tires.

I run the WR G2 on my subaru and have been very happy with snow and wet traction in comparison to other tires I have owned. Not the best compared to a true snow or aquatread. But the best all around tire I have owned. It's the first pair, so i cannot comment on treadlife other than it seems to be good so far.

I run the Hakkapeliitta SUV 5 (studded) on my wifes pilot in the winter. The grip of their snow tires has been unbelievable on the 10 mile uphill trip to the cabin in the winter. Treadlife has been good but are only on 3 months/year or so. I plan on trying a set of their SUV street tires next year.

I have not owned anything using the "Tripletred" technology.

Thanks! From what I've been reading the Nokians are the better winter rated of the two. If this is true, that might be my pick.

The Goodyears have pretty good winter traction too.

Only problem with using an all season tire is they are only good at winter traction when they are new. The tread is not as deep as a true winter tire.

The only other thing is make sure you rotate the tires... Directional tires only go one way and can wear funny if they are not moved front to back/back to front.

A little off topic but I have to say, buy from tirerack.com. You'll save a BUNDLE even with shipping! I got my Potenza's (215/35/18's from them for $205 a piece....delivery and taxes included). Check around for install prices at local shops or find a buddy with a tire machine. Woulda cost me almost twice that local I think.

I usually go to http://www.tirerack.com/ and look up the car and see what tires people have had success with. tires perform differently on different cars so it's always good to get some anecdotes from other owners of the same car. On the site you can look at the benchmarks of the tires is various conditions and survey results. Pretty cool site. My local tire place will price match tire rack too :D

Not a goodyear fan at all hear. Seems like they are always too soft a compound. Wear too fast! IMHO

I used to use Tire Rack alot. They do not deal in Nokian. I still use them for research.

Local shops have taken notice and offered competitive prices (plus free rotation and balancing every 5000). That is where I got turned on to Nokian. Never heard about them till then. I called the manufacturer before the purchase (had doubts about a year round tire that qualified for the mountain/snowflake symbol). He was very helpful, not only did he give me his time, he was quite the salesman and I could not get him off the phone.
