First batch of the any of the S-variant Vipers isn't due till mid-May last I read. That's for the US. Availability and ETA might vary in other
countries.

if you want to buggy, wait for the phanny II, if you want to board then buy the chargers......I tried the phanny prototype and it was awesome, still i
love my chargers too much to switch. they have the best qualities for boarding

Hold on there, hot rod..I'm new to this sport.
I've already got plenty of screws and scars from racing motocross, supercross, and jet ski's for too many years. Another couple of extreme sports that
you see lots of newbies buy up the nice equipment and jump in with both feet (pun intended)...usually straight to the ER.
I don't really fancy having a kite yank me 20 feet straight up outta my shoes because I don't have the muscle memory yet to react. I'll pass on the
gargantuan kites and start a bit slower, thankyaverymuch. Right now the thought of that kind of power combined with unpredictability (due to lack of
experience) scares the crap outta me...which is right where I want to be for now. Scared = careful = methodical for me. :tumble:
After researching (no possibility of demo's where I live) the Flows, Vipers, Beamers, Busters, Hornets, etc...I ordered a Tensor 4.2 this last week.
(what?) Simply for the reason that it's my first power kite (I don't need the best, yet) and I got it new for $279. The day it arrives I'll post the
link to who's selling them for that price. I think it'll be good to be able to start on the bar and then convert to handles as well...just so that
I'll be aware of the differences.
So as for the Tensor 4.2, which I know is sort of "Oh, yeah...Prism is trying out the power kite market now" kite: I'm 6'5", 225, and the past few
years average winds show to stay under 15mph or so. Usually more like 9-12.
Here's hoping that when the kite comes in I'll get a few days of low winds, my helmet and pads still fit...and I don't end up so sore from flying too
long that I can't fly the next day.
humbly,
j0fer

Pretty sure that fj's comments on the Phantom and Charger were directed at Drew... dangers of thread veers.
Careful & methodical are fine, as are Vipers, Beamers, Busters, Hornets, and Tensor for your first kite.
Good call on the safety gear

Sam

Lol no worries
If you are interested in smaller foils check out the new Peter Lynn Impulse. It comes in 3 and 3m sizes. Cool colors too. It's a good kite to start
out with in the buggy or board. Good consistent power, easy relaunch, and comes standard on a three line bar. I will have one with me at JIBE of
anybody is interested. That may be a possible foil to look into for the future

As the ETA draws closers, you will be constantly watching the trees.... and looking out the window for the UPS truck (and possibly driving around the
block looking for it).

....and the forecast will be for awesome winds, the trees will be moving, you'll notice every waving flag, and then your kite will get there and...
The wind will STOP COMPLETELY for the next week!
...except for any time you are busy and can't fly, then the wind will be ABSOLUTELY PERFECT!!

And then when the wind does pick back up...it'll be juuuuust over what I should be going out in...maybe 13 gusting to 18 or so...but I will be so
impatient from waiting that it won't hurt just this once if I'm really careful.
Meanwhile, one radio-ulnar spiral compound fracture later...
Just kidding...I got over that in my motocross/supercross days (I hope). :wee:
