There used to be... (for those that don't know me, it used to be yours truly). To be fair, as great as Hawaii is for kiting, it's a very small
market for the kiting industry. The biggest markets in the US are Florida and California. Plus, everyone in Hawaii "knows somebody" so they're
usually able to get their kites for dirt cheap. All the kite shops in Hawaii make 99% of their income through other means (kayak rentals, bike
rentals, sunscreen sales, etc. etc.). Even the biggest shops are about 1/10th the size of a shop you'd see in Hatteras.
I'm in North Carolina now (the Southern Outer Banks) and the market here is pretty much the same (unlike our neighbors further North at Cape
Hatteras). A couple kite shops have tried to make a go of it, but both have since closed. Just not enough local business to keep them busy. Now
it's pretty much buy over the internet, or through a "friend".
I personally think that most kites are sold either through kite-buddies or internet reviews. That's how it works here, one guy gets a Cabrinha and
before you know it, everyone has one.

THAT'S THE WAY it is iin north florida too. there's one shop that pushes the gear--guessing the hot stuff is whatever he gets on a deal. as always,
i call that shop before buying elsewhere and they are never interested in my business. i last called about a Charger...told me their supplier has not
had a request for a PETER LYNN kite in over 6 years :) i've always been forced to buy my peter lynn kites from traig out in ca. there are other
Pl sellers on the internet, but they never beat traig's price. i'm not his buddy so i doubt i'm getting a friend deal. funny that anyone would think
there is a PL market in Fla...i thought i was the only one!
