TOO much ground impact
Well, some you guys at Jibe got to see this Saturday morning before we left but thought i would show you how much it has spread. While i landed the
majority of the jumps I made, i was very consistent at falling on my elbow when i failed to land so after about 10 or so impacts on friday, i began to
notice some slight swelling and it was sore to the touch. Today it looks like this but does not really hurt too much but looks really scary. I think
the "growing" has finally stopped.

For a clickable thumbnail, this should work:
In Photobucket,
Click "Share"
Go To 2nd Tab (Get Link Code)
Use one of the links under "IMG for bulletin boards & forums"
Above, I used the "Clickable Thumbnail" code.
Even more gruesome in close up.... reminds me of the guy that goes to the doctor and says "It hurts when I do this"
FWIW: Close celled does a better job of protecting from impact than open cell, but retains heat. Some closed cell padding is perforated so that it
breathes better and others also have channels on the side that rest on you so the foam doesn't make full contact with you (hotter) until an impact
actually occurs. Hard shells with perforations also do a much better job of moving air and keeping you cooler when you are moving on the board. It
will have to wait, but will try to post some pictures next week.
If you opt for d3o padding, it also comes in a mesh variant that is significantly cooler while still providing a lot of impact protection.
ATB,
Sam

I got the 661 Balistic vest. Its not heavy, mesh and thin lycra so its not real hot and holds padding in place very well, unlight the strap on pads
that tend to slide when you hit the ground and wind up with road rash anyway. I think I paid around $130.00. And it looks cool too! I look like a fat

OUCHIE!!! I had a few of those myself, while learning the mtnboard downhill. Even with the elbow pads! They often slip and turn. Kind of what made
me feel "too old" for the board, but it has found a new home with a youngster with potential! lol

Todd- show it off wreck and all but only if you have some of my landings too, dont want everybody thinking i am just crazy but can actually land them
too. Problem is higher i go the harder it is to land as phree said need to work on a harder redirect. No problem when i was getting 4-6 ft up but
most of the higher ones i tended to eat it. If you aint crashing- your not trying!- (wisdom form the great Carltb)

Actually I won't show that portion of video to the public. No wrecks in my videos have to preserve this sport whatever it takes.

I just use either cheap light skate elbow pads or hockey ones if I'm going hard.
My hips looked like that a couple of times before I invested in Hillbilly Ass Pads.

My own elbow pad anecdote/ lesson/ product review from this month since you bring up the subject:shocked2:.
Following the "protect protect protect" advise that this forum gives so adamantly I picked up a cheap "starter pack"of skate pads [elbow/ knee/ wrist
in one cheap package] from one of the super stores [Target/ Kmart/ Walmat] -Razor brand. These did not fit well and kept cutting off circulation,
particularly the knee pads. I then picked up a less cheap pack [Triple 8] from Sports Authority which fit much better. The problem with the Triple 8
elbow pads [in hindsight :wow:] is that the hard shell [about 3" in diameter] sits on the point of the elbow and "only" on with straps; probably ideal
for falling from standing. When the kite pulls you out of a buggy you are falling from a sitting position and so in my case the ground pushed the
elbow pad out of the way before ripping my elbow off :o:puzzled: [grass rash with goose guano in it LOL]. The Razor has both a sleeve and straps with
a ~5" diameter hard shell which sits on the rear quarter of the forearm. This has worked quite well for me [in sleeve mode] the last couple of riding
sessions [except when I smashed the scab back into the injury under the pad :ouch:].
IIRC the sets of pads are only $20 -30.
For the bruising I recently discovered vitamin K cream. K is from the german for capillary as the vitamin heals vessel structure and reduces
bruising. The stuff is not cheap but is quite effective for those of us who are not as young as we think we are :singing::wee:

I must recommend landing differently lol. Seriously though looks brutal. I have seen similar injuries on myself and yet none of the people i go out
with have experienced anything like this. i guess thats what you get when you put way to much fabric up in 35 mph winds. Who would guess 3 meters
would be to much.
