Not sure bout Amsteel, but we have Q-power leader line in stock and it works excellent. If you can't find Amsteel, give me a call.

FWIW:
1/4" AmSteel-Blue Dyneema Single Braid, 8,600lb. Breaking Strength
3/8" AmSteel-Blue Dyneema Single Braid, 19,600lb. Breaking Strength.

A couple of ways you can go:
  1. Contact the bar manufacturer and get a quote on the spec'ed Amsteel
  2. If you are shopping locally, take some of the old leader line to the shop and match it.
  3. If you have a caliper, measure the bar end hole that the leader is going through.

Considering the break strengths are so high, I don't think safety is a real issue.

For reference:
Q-Leaderline (1/8" or 3mm) has a break strength of 1500 lbs and Q-Leaderline Pro (3/16" or 5mm) has a break strength of 2,000 lbs.

While the break strengths aren't as high on the Q-Leaderlines vs the Amsteel (though both are pretty silly high) , they are a Spectra core with an overbraid of polyethylene encapsulated Spectra which is intended to make them more resistant to abrasion.

ATB,
Sam

I am right by a West marine so figured I would pick up some Amsteel for a bar I need longer lines for. I have read 1/8 for leader lines in a google search but that seems kind of small diameter.

I think that's right, but like indigo said take some in with you. I still think 1/8 amsteel is like 3000lb test.

1/8 will work if you have access

west marine has running rigging line which what i use. its nice sailing line. i like it better than amsteel because it has a casing and fair warning on breakage esp. for mains
