Nice ride with scorpion.

I got brave this afternoon, and rode the 16m Scorpion in some bigger winds 15mph gusting to 22mph. First thing I did was fight to get the kite in the air. It wouldn't build pressure, once up I realized the two more centered intake vents were caught under the internal strap. But once flying it worked fine without correction. I started scared, as I got pulled off the board. After a while I found myself real comfortable cruising upwind, and pulling downwinders. I found it real nice to be under a larger sail on the atb, way less messing around, dive the kite and you are off on a nice ride, pull the bar in and you really blast off. I could really feel my wheels sliding out as I was tacking upwind, full skids, and slide stopping really made things exciting. One downside is that my park really is too small for such a big kite, but I managed fine. After three hours I downsized to the 6m access, to only find I wish I stayed on the scorpion, for its steadier pull, and less twitchy movement. All in all I learned that I should have used the bigger kite sooner. Six hours of kiting really wore me out.

whoop whoop, that is a good kite.....in good stable winds you can have that kite out close to 25mph winds and you can boost really big. Personally i like that kite better than the tamed down synergy. so floaty for jumps. it definatly takes some skill with the 16m to ride atb, but it seems like you have that down:karate: I think the scorpion is one of the most underated kites that is out there. fly it in the right wind and you have great control, good park and ride, and some of the best lifting capabilities. Hold onto that wing and never get rid of it. I'm glad that you like it, a lot of people in north america are scared away from it for some odd reason.

Glad you had a great time out! 6 hours of fly time is awesome! Rarely get that around here unless you are on the beach!

Sounds like you finally took it out in that sweet spot.

One thing to note. Take your time and let it fill well before trying to fly. Trying to go without enough internal pressure is bad.
My most common mistake.

Yeah I was really impressed with it. My launch would have been real clean if those intakes were all working. I think I may need to put a static sheet to them. One thing that I found great was how direct the bar feeling was. When I pulled in a bit, I could feel it surge forward a bit, when I pulled right in I was leaning back hard to hold a straight line. I did jump a bit, but the really gusty stuff was kinda scary, one second it was fast for redirect the next it was really slow giving little float as I came down. Funny thing, I almost posted it for sale the other day, because I hadn't used it in almost a year. Now I know what I'm keeping it for.:D That was the longest ATB session I've ever had, but I'm definitely feeling it today.

Yeah I tried to ride the water with it last year, never managed to get up and riding though. Probably because I was choking it out while water starting, like I just learned I've been doing. I'm gonna try it again once I've gained a few skills.

Oh yeah. That was one of the mistakes I was doing with waterstarts. Don't use the bar to pull your self up out of the water. Let the center lines to the harness pull you. My instructor would say "it is not a chin-up bar."
I want to give the landboard a try so I will be asking for advice soon.
