In general I think the Novice level kiter is in the majority on land ( in North America ). I'm just not sure that they all realize it ! Nice to see Flysurfer reacting to that group with the Unity. ( Me Want ) .

52 and still no clue !

BR when can we say we aren't novices any more? I still get butterflies in my stomach as I pull on site.

BTW 49 here but I like the average method so I'm 24 and a little. Sounds perfect other than I have a 12 and 16 year old.

I agree that this is forum is definately more of a land based kitesport crowd. I also agree that there are probably a lot more younger riders on the water and in those forums.

But if I were to go with the age of our local water riders the average age would still be in the low/mid 40's. There's a forum called masskiting and from what I've seen there are very few <30 in that crowd.

The sport is very munch in it's infancy still. Like Philip said, nobody knows that buggy or ATB exist compared to kitesurfing.

Snowkiting is even less known.

I did it again , told somene I'm 57 , my kid turns to me and sais "dad last I knew you're 56". Close enough. My wife during some conversation with the kids about parents and activities told the kids "your dad is not like other parents. He's a freak of nature." She does'nt know I've got 3 new freak flags I'll be flying soon.

Began to buggy and snow kite when I was in my mid 30's, began Kite surfing at mid 40s stopped all of it in my late 40s and now at 54 started up again! Buggied hard last week in Wildwood logging over 12 hours of riding time in two days! I was tired, but no pain! Looking to kite ski this winter, buggy more but will probably stay off the boards......Great to be back!

I'm 18 now, :D Hoping to log in my first sesh as an adult… *cough* "adult" soon.

Being 18 sucks, it's so overrated. You have to take responsibilities for your actions, or you go to big boy prison. :( I won't do too well in prison.

Luckily that's not an issue for me. I get high on kites.

56/2 is 28 the last time I checked. I guess that's what happens when third grade was so long ago. ;)
My average age is 27, unless I'm using your math then its 22.

All I know is I'm below average age. For once I'm one of the young guys.

Of course in the local scene of kiters it's a 50/50 old/young split. I'm on the youger side.

In the mountain bike scene however people think my first bike was one of Leonardo Devinci's prototypes. Thank God I'm a better biker than kiter. But I'm gonna work on that.:wee:

39 here Started kiting a few years ago. I think the biggest issue with getting into kiting is the money it takes just to get started and most people can't afford a sport that can cost $1000 just to get started. I know you can get a pansh and some cheap buggy but once you do that your going to want more.

i already posted my age and im not sure its been said yet but i believe the prices of our equipment has to do alot with our age groups. honestly how many 18 to 25 year olds can afford the stuff. very few i would suspect. not saying it cant be done but i know alot of people that are very interested and just turn down the sport for the prices of the kites and the vehicles.

The only reason I have my gear is because of my hourly job that brings in $120 or so a week during the school year, and I'm not living on my own yet so the only mandatory thing I make payments on is gas. I saved up some money and bought cheap stuff, made my own equipment, and got GRACIOUS help from ye olde PKF :D I know I'll have much much less money when I go out to college… speaking of college, I'm about to start a thread on that...
