my first four line kite was a flexifoil rage it is a 2.5meter that i still fly anytime the wind is high it was a great trainer and im glad i chose it i still fly it im not bored with it try to find something that you can grow into some because you will want lots of kites but since theyre not cheap i recommend getting something you can get some versatility out of depending on what you think you might like to do later buggying land boarding or just static

Mine was the window maker, er no I meant the widow maker. Blade II 4.9m

Great kite. Had to drive myself to hospital.

Arrived at my local. Winds blowing a nice 35/40 mph. Kite unparapacked itself from the bag and launched itself.
I grabbed the handles just in time to hitch a lift and got airborne 10/15ft up and carrying 25mph forward speed.

Landed on exposed bedrock.
Huge gash on my ankle. Wanted to cry the pain was so bad but people were watching.
Tried to walk back to the car normally as if nothing had happened. An old guy stopped me and we chatted about how impressed he was at how high I got and all the while the most agonising and searing pain I ever experienced in my ankle.

We chatted for about ten minutes on how he used to fly paragliders while I try desperately to hold back tears, it's a British thing. My shoe covered in blood, still bleeding heavily but he doesn't notice.

Drove myself to hospital via home first to wash feet and cut toe nails. Couldn't let the nurse see my unwashed feet.

Anyway, have a great time with your new kite. I've flown my friends 4m Hornet, it's a nice stable kite with plenty of pull. Just remember to take it easy.

Wow....that should be it's own thread for all those would be Blade-as-first-kite purchasers......

My first - a P.O.S. SportAir from Oz, second was my beloved Rage 4.9. I'll forever miss that one I'm sure.

8.5m Blade III. Wouldn't recommend it or do it that way again if I were starting over but that's the kite I started on. I later bought a set of JOJO ET Instincts and did most of my learning on a 2.5 and 5.5 (which I still own though I've sold the others off.)

Depower Quiver: 14m Gin Eskimo, 10m Gin Eskimo III, 6m Gin Yeti, 4.5m Gin Yeti (custom bridle and mixer)

Lots of people tried to kill themselves when they started out apparently...

I started with a nasawing, 2 square meters or something. Wasn't mine though, i borrowed it. My first own powerkite was a Peter Lynn Reactor 3.8. I had bought a Twister 4.1 on Ebay from a kiteshop in Germany, but the same moment he sold the last one in his shop. He offered me a Reactor 3.8 for the same price, so i got that one. Shouldn't have though, a Reactor is a buggy kite, so for static kiting ... not that great. After 4 or 5 months i sold the Reactor and bought a Twister 4.1 in the local shop. Should have done that from the start, but oh well.

Me: Dutch Flyboarder ... but not the kind you\'re thinking of.
Power: PL Vibe 1.8 (1.9 mod) - PL Vibe 1.9 - PL Vibe 2.3 - PL Hornet 2.0 - PL Twister 4.1 - PL Twister 5.6
Wind Range: Riding: 11 - 38 knots. Jumping: 12 - 21 knots.
Ride: Trampa (14ply 35deg channels)
Wants: PL Reactor II 6.9 - PL Impulse TR 3.0
Former gear: Libre Dragonboard Sirius - PL Guerilla 13 - Flysurfer Speed I 10 - Ozone Manta II 10
Homemade: PL Vibe 1.8 - Star 6.0 (Depower) - 3 Nasawings - Pixie 1.5 (fun foil) - Flowform 3.0 (slk) - Frog (laundry)
Dilemma: If you work, you have money for kites but no time to fly them. If you don\'t work, you have plenty of time to fly kites, but no money to buy them. Either way, we\'re all screwed... :)

My first 4 line was a Go Fly A Kite 1.4

Then went directly to a 04 12m North Vegas... not a good idea. But I did survive somehow.

A 4.5 little devil

Easy I can here the lashing I learned with a modified quad that was only 1.5 meters and had no pull
My roommate got a 4.5 ld and I fell in love had to have one for my self
Pulls like a truck if I wasn't so big 10 would be the upper limit static
Still my go to kite

LOL, to take the conversation in a different direction:
My first 4 line was a Rev SLE. Does wonders for learning the finesse, skill and control of four line flying.

In the spirit of the question it was a split 3m / 5m Hornet [package deal] and all of my NUB experiences were on the 3m.

3m Scout - did the trick to learn on but was out the door faster than I could blink.

Wish I had started with the Ozone Flow from the get-go.

No kites left :(

Flexifoil Sting II 2.4M (Petrol) / Flexifoil Sting II 1.2M (Punk)

This also marked the first of many times I would called Angus at CWS looking for something strange and off the beaten track.

Was hoping to get the 2.4 in Punk too, but it was not to be. It was the end of the Punk Series and Flexifoil only had the 1.2M left in that color. So, I got that and the remaining 1.2M from a local dealer. This was still when Flexifoil was doing 2nd Day Air, so I got them in 3 or 4 days.

First flown at the Newport Kite Festival towards the end of the day. Litsong Lu was visiting the States with her son Wen, who was competing, and had always wanted to try a powerkite, so out they came. Flew until the sun set. The 2.4 had really loose brakes, so that was interesting when the winds picked up. The 1.2M was a little bumblebee on meth.

ATB,
Sam
