PL arcs are great for shifty gusty winds. I would suggest the venomI or venom2, scorpion, synergy or charger. they are all great for landboarding
and buggying.
The chargers are the best of the lineup, but that's because they are the newest up to date model. I've owned all of the series. the venoms are a a
great introductory into arcs. they have awesome characteristics for freestyle and learning how to ride. the scorpion is one of my personal
favorites. It takes some skill to get used to, but if you want to go big on land, it is an awesome kite.
synergy is also a good beginner kite. much like the venoms except it is faster and also user friendly.
the best out of them is the charger. it's higher performance and has a much better low end in the wind range, yet you can fly them overpowered and
go huge. since it is the newest, it's going to cost more than the rest.
the others are older and you can get for cheaper but also perform very well. the nice thing about arcs is that they last for ever and are still in
good condition. LEI depower kites are nice but they don't last more than a couple of seasons.
for landboarding, i would suggest getting at least a 12 or 13m at the smallest of the kites, and a 15 or 16 for the largest since you are just
starting out.
the reason i suggest this, is that if you are wanting to freestyle smaller than 12m you need a ton of wind to be able to ride and jump.
that being said BE CAREFUL! always start learning them in lower winds 10-14mph. once you get used to them thenn you can start taking them out in
stronger winds and learn jumping and other technical freestyle tricks
keep in mind arcs are not the best low wind kites. they perform much better in 15plus mph winds. so if you are having trouble at first, they get
better and better in strong winds. they are some of the best high wind kites that are out there
let me know if you need more info

currently PL doesn't have any, but I think that is going to change very soon
I know that HQ and Flysurfer both have depower foils. Flysurfer is gonna be the most expensive. HQ has a bunch of foil depower, but i've never used
any of them, so I don't know what to suggest

ozone has the frenzy and the another model but i forget its name. to be honest the only depower kites that i have flown (besides LEI) is PL and
flysurfer. I guess i owned a slingshot snow ranger kite. but I don't think they are common to find anymore.
cost wise, flysurfer and ozone will be the most expensive but great quality. It sounds like Hq has some good stuff coming out these days, but I
haven't tried any of them.
I'm sure some dealers will be online soon enough and they can offer you more help

speed 3 21m with the silver arrow material (or whatever they call it now)
you will be struggling to get most any other de-power to fly well in those light winds. Not to say they will not fly, but they will be far from full
potential.

Flysurfer has a few depower kites for low wind situations. Depending on how LOW you are talking about. Though, since you are talking about on land,
the smallest kite I would use is the Speed3 15m Deluxe. Please bear in mind that this is NOT a cheap kite. It is quite expensive. However, when riding
in the buggy, I can use this easily in less than 10mph of wind (maybe even as low as 6?).
For the landboard, I would raise those numbers just a bit as you need a little bit more power to get going. Still, I would think your low-end would be
around 10mph or so. As you get better, you can probably push that number lower.
If you have the opportunity, I would suggest getting out and trying some kites out. See what you like...
edit: Are you planning on attending the Wildwood Buggy Bash in October? If so, get with me while you are there. I have more foils than I can fly, and
would be happy to let you give em a go...

Sure... Only problem is that most times the wind is blowing, I am heading off to the water to kitesurf...At least until things get colder.
I've gotten kind of jaded on decent winds. I do not generally fly in the DC area simple because of how inconsistent the winds can be. If winds are
blowing in DC strong enough to ride, chances are if you are willing to take the drive, you can find better locations to ride somewhere else.
However, having said that... if you nail a place and time, drop me a line and I will try to make it out there so you can give em a shot...

hq makes a decent lineup of depower foils... i have a montana and an apex and both are pretty good... no gripes coming from me
the ultimate low wind kite is the flysurfer 21m speed 3.... but "hold on to your butts" it'll set ya back $3000+
ive seen people get on the water in >10mph wind
theres a video of a kid zipping around on the water with the 21m in 2mph winds... crazy low end!!
Lol i WISH that was my first depower
i will say... there was one day at jibe... and me and my montana were making shipwreck runs while everyone else was just sitting around! For the
money, hq kites are an awesome bet
that being said.... i LOVE my arcs.... if you come to the d'arc side, you'll be happy

21m only comes in the DLX Version
its the price you pay to fly in 10mph or less on bar
go with handles, its cheaper and you can go smaller.
~just saying.

Unfortunately, he did quite specifically say Depower...
Less than 10, its possible... you just have to have the right conditions (hard pack, big kite)

oh boy, that's some light wind!
I know the older speed2 19 SA pulls as soon as you can launch it...I've seen Macboy snowkiting when the wind was basically NOTHING....it was
practically flying on its own apparent wind...but I don't think the speed2 are gust friendly kites, so not sure how it would do for landboarding.
Not experienced with HQ or ozone too much, but HQ came out with the matrix, which is supposed to compete with the flysurfer speed series. Max size is
15 it seems. Ozone has the manta 15 too...don't know much about either of these kites though.

I have been searching for the right sub 10mph depower kite for a long time.
One thing I have figured out is that most of the options also need space to run and build up apparent wind.
Lately I have been going to my 18m Phantom most and am really enjoying it. That said, The other arcs have let me down in sub 10 and the Phantom isn't
often available.
Ripsession is bringing in a 12.5 Zibre Scope for me to demo and I look forward to giving it a go?

If you want light wind a big frenzy or manta will do the trick
I have seen someone getting up to ten feet of air with a 12m manta in winds light as 10 but that was static if you were moving a 4+ mph would probably
be enough for say a 15 m manta check out the wind charts on the ozone website based on 150 lb rider

Just checked at flyozone.com and a 15m manta would be an expert. Ride at 4 knots

ALL OF THEM !
For around 10mph you will be looking at a large arc 15 to 19m. A 10 or 13 Foil such as Ozone, Flysurfer , HQ etc.
I have sellers remorse for my 13m Psycho III . It would get me going in some pretty low winds and would be hitting it's sweet spot at 10mph .
Generally I find trying to work a ride out of sketchy low winds to be too much like work. I let Ricky chase the " sucker " winds while I sit in a
chair. Ricky will chase anything ! That is entertainmet enough! :wee:

-from what i've seen/done 4-5 mp/h in a buggy(large tires) on hard packed grass covered field is easily fun times (and at good speed). no
maneuvering/stalling problems... if kite launches it'll stay in the air.
-it takes some work but i've static jumped with this kite when hardly an individual leaf on the trees would be fluttering (about 2 mp/h).
