ok, it's a dumb question but i live way off in a hut and don't get out much...

when i'm reading here i run into the phrase 'send the kite' a lot, and i'm not super clear on what you guys mean...

i'm guessing that you are turning the kite away from your direction of travel, so it faces the 'trailing edge' of the wind window if that makes any sense...? are you driving it through the power zone a bit too? does the phrase have meaning for static flying? does it involve the depower?

Sending the kite means flying it hard and fast straight to the top of the wind window usually to give the flier maximum lift.

I think you have the right idea.

You " set up " by gaining speed and edging upwind. Then " SEND IT" from the direction of travel back toward the top of the window and " load up " by holding on until it is time to "pop " your jump. Pull in the bar and off you go! Then redirect and " spot your landing "

Mukluk, that's a happy looking dog in your avatar. Is that a golden-doodle? My sister in law has a golden-doodle who looks very much like your dog. He can be pretty high energy but he's a wonderful dog with a ton of personality and a great companion for her and her family.

The location you are in looks great too (in a rugged kind of way).

send it.... is the SUDDEN, quick redirect during forward speed run, typically the back gives a hard deep pull, then super quick "release" to depower this zooms the kite to the apex and PULL IN AND POP! OFF YOU GO. UP or out depends on your placement ....tis is done at speed with the kite fairly high in the window.

the FB VERSION IS THE SAME , with speed (or running) direct the kite behind you.

all very quick . its a falling off of the wind with aggressive direction to do so. the LE IS SUDDENLY THROWN INTO a SQUARE relationship to the wind ,hence the sudden lift.

So, you make it snappy....and i assume that the higher in the window this happens the more up and less out you get...

You called it a 'redirect', and it is in the sense that the kite turns back and then shoots up to the apex....but this is followed by 'THE REDIRECT' which is a turn back to your direction of travel or over you? (the one that keeps you under the kite and floating nicely?...so there are two direction changes in the sequence..?)

i am so not trying this at home, at least not just yet...

make sure you do not send it back too much otherwise you will get spun around.

at speed on a send, its quick. after it jacks you, you have to pilot it yes, you can go the other way as well after the apex. its pilot choice at times but in general most like to keep going in the forward direction

....unless you're after an air transition - hen send it, keep it above and then for THE REDIRECT send it futher the opposite way you were going, line up for landing and off you go in the new direction. One of my favorites:

Is it just me or are you getting stuck jumping on your strong side ?

Something I learned a long time ago is as soon as you learn it right , learn it LEFT !

I am at a similar level jumping and have been shocked at how great of jumps I have gotten by accident going off on my weak side ! Possibly some of my biggest jumps ? :wow:

@br- definetly stuck on my strong side but worked on transition jumps heading weak side and using jump to change direction. know i need to work on it more but had issues with wind direction and soft sand the day we had the camera out. need to get a bigger set.

I also try to learn things on both sides at the same time so I don't get stuck in one direction. What I find, however, is that I jump higher on my weak side and longer on my strong side - I seem to send the kite further on my weak side for whatever reason???

Ditto BR. I am stuck on jumping to left. To the right is terrible. Also I need to learn to jump and transition to the other direction. Any tips on that one?

Not sure of any tips accept that the longer you go doing something one way the harder it seems to learn it the other. So it's best to try the other way as soon as you have it figured out on the strong side.
