wingsuits: genius or Really Bad Idea??

hadn't seen this stuff before...the logical extension of the kiting/paragliding/skydiving impulse/continuum??

once in a while i stumble into a really clear boundary to the world of Things I Do Not Want To Try...

but take away the base jumping part and do this out of a plane, it would be a hoot!

The line is so small most never even notice it. Although fo ME I could drive a truck on this one:o Call me chicken, coward, sissy or what ever else you feel. But I will be sitting here reading it again tomorrow:bigok:
Though it does look wicked cool. And I saw some guy going so fast on one video he had a vapor trail. That is just plane nuts!!

I think it is awesome as well! There is that one guy, can't remember his name, that actually hit the bridge, even more reason to do this out of a plane instead of off a cliff!

I have flown one of them a while ago (skydiving, not base jumping), it's a completely different feeling, not to mention it brings a lot more complications if something goes wrong. But it's an awesome feeling.

There's a nice description here (at 7:15) about how wingsuits work.

Suspension bridge wires? I have nightmares about what a mid-air collision with a feathered neighbor would be like. At those speeds, I expect it wouldn't be pretty for either party.

Sam

If you want more info about the gentleman who unfortunately passed away crashing into the Royal Gorge bridge, the other pilot who was with him has made a video-piece about it, it's been shown on many "outdoor" channels.

Here is a blog with all the info - http://xtremesport4u.wordpress.com/2008/11/16/the-legends-la...

They are brilliant. I have a couple of BASE jumps with them, back in the old fly away from the wall and be happy days. Flown like that big wall BASE is safer. Of course safe ain't fun after a bit.
PS that video is a bit dated here is a recent one http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TWfph3iNC-k
