Extreme Windsocking

Well, thanks to bobalooie57 I was inspired to make a windsock out of some spare ripstop I had that someone gave me which was unfortunately semi-porous. Didn't want it to go to waste, so went for a windsock. It was pretty easy to make and seems to work good. Thanks bobalooie!

Figured flying the thing off of an old broom handle for a photo op would work great and... well... a new extreme sport has been born. It's pretty intense so I'd recommend nothing longer than a 1.5 m sock for beginners. Socks can get pretty wild in the gusts, so I'd recommend harnessing yourself to a post if possible. As you can see, it can get pretty wild.

All kidding aside, I think this is going to help me be a better kiter. I find myself getting frustrated sometimes when I get disorientated by a change in wind strength and/or direction.

I plan on making a couple more and will do a draw on here in a few days to give one away.

Cheers,

Dave

Hey, way to go, nice windsock!

Not sure I could handle the extreme sport of windsocking though...the tying oneself to a pole could get a bit awkward.

That said, if you make another sock for a prize, I would seriously give the high risk sport a little more thought. :D

I don't know, with the right size sock it might get pretty crazy. Anyone remember the videos on buggying with an umbrella?

And its a lovely shade of green! I have a 13' Shakespeare collapsible panfish pole (just has a ring at the tip) that I fly mine from. I anchor it with a coil type rod holder. Works good. veer: Drew, still waiting on the go-pro? :shocked2: I ordered my Tachyon Micro and it was in my mail 3 days later.

Something about this topic reminded me of a time when one of my brothers (there is 8 of them) and I were in the top of a maple tree during hurricane winds. Almost but not quite a human wind sock!
