wildwood

Hello!
I have the green light after 10 years to go out ALONE! Ive been kiting skis/buggy for 3 years all self taught. Are there all sorts of skill levels going to this event. After seeing YouTube videos I feel a little intimidated. I have 2 kites a stock flexifoil buggy and still use a stromp with bowline knots on my handles. I hope to meet some people, have an awesome time and most important....learn a bunch of new things. Can't wait till Oct.

Cheezycheese,
Thanks,
I have a bunch of questions about wildwood. Are there any campsites locally are do most of the people attending stay at a main place? Are you free to buggy at any time or are there so many people that turns must be taken? Just a couple ? for now.

For sure get to Wildwood, you will meet some people, have an awesome time, and learn a whole bunch! All skill levels will be there, so no reason to feel intimidated. I larkshead one end of my strop to one handle, and slip the loop over the top of the other one, so if I let go, it slips right off the harness. Where do you snowkite?

I have access to huge horse pastures where I live in upstate (Rochester) area. Some of them in the 300 acre size. I also go out on a couple lakes when they freeze over with my downhill skis on. I live it when there is a little bit of snow on the ice. Just enough for the skis to keep an edge. Are there reps there selling kites, buggies etc?

Oh yeah, welcome to the forum/addiction! There are campgrounds, but I think most folks stay at the Shalimar Resort. Its a nice place, and we have a big BBQ there, etc. As to buggying, they talked about having a space set aside for new folks that might be intimidated by speed demons, but they are usually quite good at avoiding the less experienced, and there is quite a lot of beach at low tide, so lots of room.

Intimidated meaning I have a stock Flexi buggy and two old kites.. a blade II 4.0 and a rage 3.5. The videos I'm watching are showing some big kites and bar set-ups that look crazy to me. I saw one with like 5 lines zig zagging back and forth....what is that all about. I've only flown with handles. We don't exactly get the "CLEAN" air around here. Lots of gusts and just me in a huge field all by myself!
I can't wait to go and see what this is all about. Thanks for the info.

EDIT.Welcome! Sorry I get excited talking about the bash!

Here are two campgrounds that people coming to the bash have used before, one being Beachcomber The other beingSeaShore Campgrounds. I have stayed at Seashore several times. Very nice accommodations and very friendly staff. Hot showers, they cost about 75 cents, but well worth it. I personally have not stayed at Beachcomber, but also here it is a nice campground.

The rates are very reasonable, especially that time of year.

If you are interested in staying at the Shalimar, Here is the link for them. Shalimar Resorts Home Page If you stay there, make sure you tell them you are coming for the bash and you will get the group rate. It is a wonderful place with exceptional staff. The BBQ on Sat will be held there as well as the raffle and other great times. Here is the link for the PKF thread all about Shalimar rates for the Bash.Shalimar rates for WBB fall 2011

You are sure to have an excellent time and you will get tips and tricks all you need if you ask. If you have any questions, shoot!

BEC I'm located in Syracuse. My son and I fly Oneida lake (huge) and Onondaga lake (not huge) all winter with an occational forray into Tug Hill. Seashore is great, very easy short drive to the beach. Curtissportconnection.com located in Buffalo can fix you up with all things kiting, very dependable easy to work with. Beach wind is sooo different from what you're used to , you will love WBB. I'll let you fly my depowers if I can fly your pasture. See you at WBB.

BEC-
To echo previous comments, welcome and we look forward to seeing you at the bash!
Couple quick comments to answer questions... First off, if the wind is blowing, you are welcome to ride. The mor experienced riders are generally good about avoiding those that are uncomfortable, or each other for that matter (with some rare exceptions, accidents do happen).

The five-line kites you saw were probably depower kites. There are a number of folks that fly them, and you will have the opportunity to learn all about them, if you are so inclined. You might even be able to fly some if you want...

Hope this helps... :)
