Airin and I were joking about putting an electric motor on a buggy . After some thought it didn't seem such a joke?
Sail boats have motors!
Seems a small motor / battery pack isn't completely crazy. We thought of lots of cases it could come in handy. Busted kite, walk of shame or just
getting to a location. It would always be charged when needed if you used a regenerating power system.
Anybody think there is a market for such a thing? Shouldn't be rocket science to design?
No engineer, but I don't think it would be that hard. Basically a system that would charge itself while you were under wind power. You would have
to make some considerations for the environment it would be operating in, though.
Aim low. Reach your goals, and avoid disappointment.

Exactly how I 1st felt .
The next day Coolbreeze had a bridle blow out and we also had to tow our buggies just off the beach to Sunny J's house. Had to move the car off the
beach at high tide and could have just ridden the buggy to camp instead?
I could see many chances to use one if I lived at Seaside or similar?
I thought I heard that some guys in europe already got some contraption like that already. A little portable unit that you can use to get yourself
back to base when the wind died. The electric ones that use a friction drive for your bicycle would work. Just need a mount so that it can attach
and turn the tire directly.
I like that Idea, do a removable spline on the foot-pegs and a BB [bottom bracket] in the hub, so you can rotate one 180 deg when ready to pedal. 16
-18" wheel would be hard to pedal on uneven surfaces.

I seem to recall Eli having a gas powered ATB out on the beach. Maybe it was a blind eye kinda thing but still. I'd bet that in order to not suck too
much power out of the ride while regenerating that it'd be a pretty small setup, aimed at an emergency solution rather than a friday night joyride
setup. I've had similar thoughts about backpacking one of those snorkelling motor things for some long distance deep water treks.
Shouldn't be too hard to run a gear / pulley off the inside of a back wheel to the generator/motor. Look at the standoffs on ATBs with the disc
brakes.
Of course if you really DO want a Friday night cruise solution you could always bling out with spokes. These guys can make nearly any size /
configuration although I'm not sure they could go as small as a buggy wheel. Then again I bet they could......(jump to 0:50)
just a guess here but i do believe weldengod is completely against this idea. lol. yes to emergency perposes not for a long cruize. bat life would be
very small though i would think an hour at most. at 10 maybe 15 mph maybe im thinking to fast to long. im going off electric gocarts but they are much
heavier and carry more people. van let me know when you need a test pilot for your electric mod lol. ill drive down and pick it up buggy and all if i
have to.

Part of why I like this sport is because I can go out AND come back with nothing but the power of the kite. NO I don't have brakes. NO I don't have a
motor. It's a KITE buggy. That's what makes us special.
Bladerunner, you come up with some ingenious motor/generator deal and put it on your buggy. Then any time in the future that you might find a way to
pass me, I can just say "but of course he passed me, he has a motor on that thing"!
Brothers in arms WG. As years go by, I find we are more and more alike deep down. I just can't weld...................yet.

In all honesty, im a tinkerer.... And I would do this, just to say I could..... But id never use it as my buggy... Itd just be a funny gokart you
steer with your feet..... Itd look sweet with a suicide shifter! Ahahahaha!
