I have been considering getting a buggy for over a year now, and this month I am going to get one, I have 2 local choices

Flexifoil stanard buggy at dealer cost $375.00 Canadian
or
Peterlyn ST with stanard wheels $381.75 Canadian

instinct tells me to go with the flexi buggy.

You have been pondering a bit longer than I have; I've only been pondering 6 months. I don't know why those are your only choices, may be the shop doesn't have anything else. If that is the case, those prices are what you would have to pay if they were new. But they aren't new, there old models. New models are going to cost a bit more, but the upgrades are going to be worth it. If you have done any research, via this forum for example. The older buggies have had lots of trouble with their welded joints. So unless you like to weld, go with the newer buggies. I am going with the PL Comp XR because of its ability to upgrade via buying other parts (longer sides, suspension axle) to a racer. Unless your in a hurry and can’t wait for the mail, order the newer PL Comp XR+. Same as the old except the real axle is 20mm not 15; the older ones are 12mm!

flexi over the peter lynn buggy any day! better build and no axle bends! however my old buggy i had is better than the flexi buggies in my opinion! winddragon.co.uk have a look and see what you think of them

Check out the Kite Trike, it is considerably cheaper, quality is as good or better than PL / Flexi. It's is manufactured somewhere in Canada, the only dealer I know of is here in the U.S. the name of the shop here is Wind of Change; Las Vegas, NV. Flexi bug can really take a beating while PL well they aren't anywhere near as durable. Kite Trike is new and no reveiws or chatter about them yet. The Flexi is a proven workhorse that if your getting into the sport the Flexi Bug will last you a long time without failures.

The Trike is powder coated steel....IMHO I would take a stainless steel bug over over steel powder coat one any day. The seating on the Trike looks pretty cush though.

But then again it all depends what your going to do with your bug and how hard your going to go at it. Any of the entry level bugs are fine if your just going to roll around your local soccer field or beach.

Cheap is nice but the Euro's are dealing with failures with a new cheap entry level bug as we speak.

I would wait till after NABX to see what the consensus is on the Trike.

Words of Advice:
With your butt a couple of inches off the ground screaming along at a mile a minute or at any speed that a weld letting go or a foot peg busting off or any failure that could cause a crash and/or injury it just makes sense not to sweat it about spending a couple hundred bucks or more extra to have confidence and quality in your gear.

I'm with the flexi buggy all the way, although I have had a PL Comp for 6 years and have now passed it on the the girlfriend I find that the Flexi is a better made piece of kit and can handle most of the abuse that I give it.

First You have to ask Yourself a questions;
What do I expect from my new buggy?
Will I do freestyle ,raceing or maybe both?
Should I pay more and get good stuff?

If You answer to all those questions Yourself the choice should be easy.

My advice is do not look on price when You buying gear,after all You get what You pay for.It will pay off to get good stuff when You riding with wind in hairs or jumping and knowing that You are safe.

As far as PL and flexi I would go with flexi Wide axle for a start and when You will get more comfy and familiar and bored just cruising buy short axle for freestyle.

I would go for flexi over the comp, but if you have th chance, check out the new XR+ It may still not be adequate for jumping, but it is way better built than the older PLs.

I've had a PL Comp for four years now and it's been a great buggy, but I have read that they are not made so well. I only use mine for speed runs - no jumps, or 360s. So if you plan to do a lot of freestyling or give it some abuse then the Flexi may be a better option.

The Flexi also saves you 6 bucks - enough for a beer or two after that first day of buggying!

We could only get PL buggies here. These were PL's made in China and proved to be complete disasters for us.

We all have our PL's still but they have been modified beyond recognition.
I buggied in the UK while on vacation on a borrowed Flexi and the difference was like day & night. If I had to choose between the two I wouldn't think twice about it & it would be a Flexi every time.

However, there are other buggies on the market besides these two. Why are you limiting yourself to one of these two buggies?

Incidentally, I now build my own buggies to suit the terrain here. I buy the wheels & seat from Germany.

I urge to to take a close look at Kitetrike buggies from Rockville. Dollar for dollar, they kick the pants off of either the Flexi's or the P.L.s. If I didn't already have 3 freestyle buggies, I'd buy one. (Incidentally, all mine are Flexi's,
