For any kiter driven mad by the summer wind

REJOYCE! Winter is coming!

I figured I'd post a very interesting article from the Wind Resource Atlas about changing seasonal winds and geography.

"Lake Ontario and Lake Erie
Annual average wind power of class 3 or 4 is found along the coastal areas of both Lake Erie and Lake Ontario as the smooth, overwater fetch allows strong near-surface winds to develop. Class 5 is estimated to exist in the central part of both lakes. Existing data indicate that class 3 wind power may extend 30 to 40 km (20 to 25 mi) inland from the eastern shore of Lake Ontario (Pickering et al. 1980). "

This is what makes the Tug Hill Region such an excellent area in the northeast to snowkite! Thanks for posting that!

Very interesting read! Always stoked for the winter winds, summer just sucks around here for good winds. Ya know, being so close to lake michigan I would think that I could find a better place to fly. Green Bay being on the bay of lake michigan really doesn't get that great of winds, of course we are only at 500ft of elevation and the majority of our weather comes from the west, so it kinda looks like I'm just living on the wrong side of the pond.

I have driven over 10,000 miles this summer and have gotten accustomed to seeing huge expanses of semi-flat land that I have had to look twice at because I am seeing all good kite spots covered in SNOW!!! all summer long I have had wonderful hallucinations of winter being here already! I enjoyed Kiting the Gorge quite a bit but nothing stokes me up like snow. I have tuned my skis and waxed them already, (a little premature I know...) but what can I say I am jonesing for some White!!!
