Mythbusters film at the decommissioned Alameda Navy air strip. I have wanted to go out there and buggy but there are fences all around it and no
trespassing signs. Makani Power is right there. They are developing an airborne wind turbine system. I would bet it is one of those guys. I need
to stop by and see what it is about. I have seen them test the prototype out in the Sacramento delta.

I could be wrong. I have always assumed they are on San Fran Bay? Is the Naval air base not right there ?

Thought so. When doing the tourist thing I just HAD to look at that spot. That was even before I saw it on Mythbusters. How cool would it be if we
COULD land kite there ? :wow:
Adam and Jamie would be high on my list of the best dinner party guests !

I used to buggy there all the time. Unfortunately the ramp/movement area that was kiteable wasn't that big. Maybe a quarter mile by 200 yards. There
was always some other miscreant out there; minibikers or some dude teaching his gf to drive. They had the gates open on the weekend (along with the
"No Trespassing" signs) but during the week the fence at one point was only waist high. Good winds, too!
The bummer was that the runway part, a huge square with two crossing 9,000 footers, was right there and wide open, but restricted as it was a Least
Tern nesting area.
Long story short, last time I was there there was thousands of tons of earth and dozens of shipping containers placed all over the movement area. And
an angry security guy giving me the low speed chase all over the site. Whoops.
I miss it!
