With everyone talking about the great, if gusty winds they had this past weekend, I though I'd share a little vid I took yesterday at Southwick Beach. I ran into a couple of kiteboarders from Ithaca, up to get some in the 25-35mph WSW wind that was raoring across the lake. I started small with the 2M Beamer, then switched to the 2.4M NPW, first with handles to bridles, then with 10M lines. FUN! :wee:

I used foo foo, by Santana from the Shaman CD for the tune.

That had a pretty unique shape I take it a "normal" small FB probably would not work well like that? Maybe need some shorty lines (5ft?) to get it out away from your wind shadow and giev it some window to work in?

Bob you've got to love that "throw and go' npw launch. You are a master of your craft!

It's funny how they handle with no lines. You have to work it to make any power, but you fly out the window so fast it's hard to compensate. One of the kiteboarders said "That is so cool, it's just like a sail", and I said ya, and I'm the mast!
@lamrith, I think it might have been houstonairhead that had video of him flying a foil on very short lines, or maybe right off the handles, holding both handles in one hand! Talent! Kite might even have been a Pansh.
EDIT: oh yeah, he was riding a skateboard around the block!

I am talking about @5:00 min in the video above. THat little kite with bridle fixed directly to the handles. I have not seen anything like that before, it looks like fun.. Both handles in one hand is pretty crazy..

I am curious is a normal FB like a Buster could work that way?
But a std FB might need a touch of line to get it mroe out of the riders shadow?

@lamrith, Thats a 2.4M NPW5, made by HQ up until a few years back. Now they don't make them anymore. :sniff: But we have our own NPW goddess in kitemaker4.(Susan) She makes the NPW9, which is more stable, and can make just about any size or color you might want. That was the first time I'd ever flown it right off the bridles like that. It came to me with about 10M lines, and that is what I usually use, but I had set it up like that to try and use it in my kayak, which I never tried, 'cuz the only time I was kayaking was when there wasn't any wind!
@John H., yes that was my usual spot on L. Ontario, the water level has finally dropped enough where I might get brave enough to fly the 7.5M Apex in the buggy. So far I've been worried about treeing it!

it is houstinairhead, different names for different places. after watching this I tried it on a very windy day with a flexboard and it worked great!
