Just be forewarned that starting in November and through about March the weather here can be pretty unpredictable. We had about 2 hours of kite-able weather yesterday before the wind died and shifted North. For the 4 previous days we had no wind at all. Air temps vary from the low 70's yesterday to the low 50's today. It's going down to the mid 40's tonight. Water temps (and remember I'm in the Southern OBX which is warmer) have been hovering between 60 and 63 degrees. Up North at Waves it should be considerably colder and the sound will typically be colder than the ocean this time of year.

You missed my favorite month, October, which historically has the best combination of empty beaches, nice weather and either good surf or good wind. From here on out it'll be a crap shoot. If you're lucky you'll get some wind. Otherwise, have some other ideas lined up. Also, a lot of restaurants will be closed. Most close before Thanksgiving, so you may want to keep that in mind.

Having said that, I hope you have a nice visit. If you're lucky everything can line up and it'll be warm and have good wind. I've gotten some really nice surf and kitesurf sessions in December. There was even one Christmas Eve that we were all out at the beach in shorts sunbathing it was so warm out. But those sessions have been the exception, not the rule.

forecasts and wind are sketchy this time of year.........................if you can take it to Cocoa Beach or south would be much more consistant conditions. I had a couple conversations with AJ last winter and there was a long stretch he stayed out of the water on the ocean and inlet side (too cold) may the weather Gods shine on you in Waves..............

Jan / Feb are the worst months for water sports here. That's probably the time of year AJ headed South (a lot of folks here do). Last year we got 12" of snow. :P If you surf or paddle surf you'll have a better chance of getting in the water than if you kitesurf. The air temps with wind chill are just too cold IMO. Water temps were in the low 40's. But even then, every once in a while, we can get a warm spell up into the 60's, if we're lucky. Or, like I said, it may snow.

I think Aweful Arthur's is still open during the winter (at least they used to be), so there's at least one place you can still buy a beer and hushpuppies all winter long.

grrrrrr....... thanks you guys for all that info ...... looks like we will have to find another destination ....... unless we just go a take our chances if wind forecast looks good .......

What are yours suggestions ??? Any good locations down in FL ?????

A couple January's ago I went down to Stuart, Florida and had a great time there. It was a lot like here during late Summer (weather and wind wise). I would go down there again in a heart beat. There's also Jupiter, Florida which is just a bit further down (maybe a half an hour?) and they've got a really nice point to launch from for flat water or waves. There's no way I would go North, me and snow just don't get along.

If you have the time, why not work your way down the coast, go down to Hatteras Island, then take the ferries to Ocracoke and then Cedar Island. Kite if the opportunity comes and if not continue driving South. There are beaches and launches all along the way. Would make an awesome trip.

Jupiter would be a great spot with many opportunities to ride as you head south.................OBX, SOBX (with Big k), IOP (with Tri), Sullivans Island (with Tri), Folly (with Tri), Hilton Head Island (with Phree), Jekyll Island (with Angus) St Auggy, Cocoa Beach, Stuart, and Jupiter.............................
