I have fced the same dilema with my kids (now 9 and 12) but haven't moved them to depower for the following reasons:
1) when on handles with killers, if they are overpowered you know they can just let go and be OK - maybe not so much on a depower because...
2) they may not be able to reach the safety
3) they may not have the wherewithall to pull the safety
Additionally their arms may not be long enough to work the bar effectively.
Play around a bit with your bar to see if they have long enough arms and the capability of pulling the safety. If so, I'd say no bigger then a 5m and
best off on a 4m Access or 3m Apex.
