Thinking of making the trip down from Vancouver Canada this summer, do you guys have fairly consistant winds in june/july?

I'm also assuming that standard barrows will do the job down there. How's the camping situation?

Hey Sunset Jim:

Big kite? Funny 3 wheeled kart? Passing cars like a bat-outa-hell? You'd think I would've noticed that?!? You are still at Sunset Beach "OREGON" right? That's just weird. It must be that whole "blending into the scenery" thing again. Oh well, I'll find ya this week.

Hey Pablo:

The Late spring\summer (May through October) is great around here. Winds are usually out of the west (Southwest to Northwest) during a major part of the day. It's not 100%, but then again where is? Lets just say, out of the last 2 weeks, at least 9 to 10 days have been good buggying weather, and at least 4 to 5 have been GREAT!!! buggying weather. (I define GREAT as "smooth, mostly west wind, between 15 and 20 mph, that allows for long runs down the entire length of the beach "river to the rocks" = about 11 miles. Good = the same wind, but more N.W. or S.W. so there's more diagonal runs, tacking, and downwind runs)

Barrows are fine for almost all low tide conditions, however if you have Bigfoots, Bigfoot LT's, or any wide flat low-pressure radial or offroad tires, bring them too (or buy some). There's LOTS of usable soft-sand beach beyond the hardpack, as well as dunes to play on if you have enough "float" on your tires. This is particularly useful when the wind is less then perpendicular with the beach. Not required, but it does open up a lot more playground.

As far as camping sites, Ft. Stevens State Park and the Warrenton KOA (more info on the web) are both really nice, and located on the north part of the beach. You can drive right onto the beach at the access at Ft. Stevens, and head south until you come to the Sunset Beach access (where most of us hangout)

Look forward to seeing you sometime this year. Post when you're coming down, and we'll all meet up. (if can ever find Sunset Jim)

Sounds like a plan, just need to figure out what week Grandma's taking our kiddlets, then heading down. I plan on making it down at least twice this year, once in the summer, then again for the SOBB.

Hoping to have some new kites to bring down as well as some BF wheels.
