Video - Ivanpah Dry Lake with a Montana

To anyone not a buggier this will be a pretty boring video but it will be nice for those that want to experience vicariously the thrill of riding in the vastness of Ivanpah.

No editing, no music, just a clip cut out of lots of footage from the gopro.

This is my son Wexler wearing the gopro on his helmet and somehow he missed getting any of the rest of us while filming but you can get a feel for the ride that day.

He is riding in the PTW Hero and flying the HQ Montana VI 9.5m. Speeds that day were typically 25-35 mph with winds in the low teens mostly. From where we were parked the run over to I-15 is about 1.8 miles.

Thanks LB! Yes, it is a family affair when I load up to go ride. My youngest is putting in the miles out there too. He's ready for a depower ride next time we go. Wexler (riding in the vid) has gotten lots better and fully independent now that we have all gotten used to riding at Ivanpah. We both fight over who gets the Montana. If the winds pick up a bit, one of us can run the 7.5 Apex and the other the 7m Montana. I also fly fixed bridles alot out there so its all good.

Ivanpah really is kite buggy nirvana. You can go for miles and miles without thinking about making a turn. Really missing the place after watching Wexler. Thanks for sharing Bob. Gotta love the family affair!

Thanks for the kudos guys. Just raw video but I'll get better and spice things up as I learn. I'll also run the camera myself and make sure I include others in the shot since that gives so much more perspective of space and speed as well as how kites compare.

Yes John, edge to edge. And that run is the shortest one you can make. Any change in direction gives you the longer run down the length of the lake. You get stopped by the shoreline bushes on the east side and the interstate fence on the west.

Love the video! Love the sound! I miss Ivanpah, so many stories. Back about 15 years ago I passed my friend Fritz, with my wife on the back tandem. When we got back to camp, Fritz told me he was doing 50mph, we passed him very quickly! I was scared to death! My Wife didnt know any better, thought it was normal and loved it! Until we told her......, that sound when the speed picks up is something you never forget! Thanks for the video! See you in NABX!

Excellent! I love riding here and many have never been here to ride so I hoped that sharing the video would be like sharing the riding there. More to come for sure.

wish we had miles of room like that--i buggied with my blade 10.5 before, but the speed builds up so fast that u run out of room.....dont think that would be a problem there......

the problem here would be the amount of apparent wind that would build up with that size kite. You might be able to fly it with sub 10 mph winds at camp but imagine it cruising at 30 mph.

As you can see it some in the video, the buggy is doing great. It troubles me for it not to be a spotless showpiece, but it is useless to clean up my buggies because they look just the same within 5 minutes of my next ride. I've done it twice now but it always looks the same when I get it home.
