Looks like self tapping metal screws installed into the tire tread...

I agree a 3/8 inch head or a 3/16th inch shank, self tapping and a lot of free time I would think. I would think that about half as many bolts would work almost as well. They would need to be short, like half inch or less on the threaded area. I heard of people doing something similar to this with there bicycle tires. Works well enough.

Also want to watch the down wind turns. Those grab good enough that buggy is going over.

All in all not a bad idea though.

Still looks like there is a fair amount of fish-tailing involved.... no where near the "bite" of blades.

They also appear to be installed "point -in" rather than "Mad Max/Thunderdome"-style "point out" wondering how long before the inner tube is placed in jeopardy.

And yes.... definitely a whole lot of free time involved. I expect more than a few pets died due to forgotten feeding times. :sniff:

Sam

Looks like plenty of grip. yes, maybe fewer would still be just as good. Sure would open up some buggy space in cold climates with freezing lakes.

I was thinking the same thing about the points popping the tire. but at the same time as long as the tread doesn't wear down they might last a fairly long time.

For the best grip on ice using a "studded" tire, these screws are the ticket.....

https://koldkutter.com/catalog/products.php?osCsid=c47f2aa75...

On the bikes they give even MORE grip then race slicks on tarmac.

This past week we had about 2-3 inches one day and 4-5 inches the following day. However, very windy nights scrubbed most open areas clear and then multiple 40°+ days and some rain has only left little islands of snow (most under 1' in diameter).
