Got my first Arc!

Just picked up my first Arc from an old school kiteboarder not too far from me.

Got to fly for a short while this afternoon- auto zenith is a little spooky at first :o ...but super cool!

Looking forward to getting a session in with it and seeing how she flys!

I have to say though- for a 6.3 this kite is HUGE! I don't understand how, but it seems like it's almost 40% larger than my Montana 7m when it's on the ground :shocked2:

Have fun with it. The PA on the 6.3 is somewhere around 4.5 I think but yeah layed out it would look close to a 7m bridled wing.

Keeps us up to date on how things go.:singing:

Thanks everyone- no wind today so I went in the backyard and blew her up with a small leaf blower just for fun. That's normal right?

Hey Todd- careful because you don't want me to ruin a classic or does this kite have a reputation for being unforgiving?

Ha, yes. :P

I haven't had a lot of expirience with S-Arcs beyond my old modded 830. Not quiet as forgiving as a modern arc but still hella fun.

Had my old F-Arc 12m out the other day in 10mph -12mph winds. My god what a monster! My wife took the 19m Charger from me and I opted for the 1200. The 1200 pulled harder, and flew faster than the 19CH no problem.

As long as you don't get caught in a huge wind change you should be fine. :tumble:

Old arcs are great.

Hey thanks guys. If I like this one I'll add a newer arc to my wish list- I figured this was a way to get some experience with that type of kite without breaking the bank.

I'll be careful with her tho ;-)

I think when the Sarcs came out the bar was just a trim strap, but no depower line. Sort of like a FB kite with on-the-fly tuning.

Feyd - minimal front bridle on the Farc's may be an answer for easier relaunch and more depower range. Working through tuning on one of my 1200's now, and it definitely can fly at lower AOA. Have one on one of my HiArcs, and it makes it easy to relaunch, but the thing is still really squirrely.

I messed with the front bridal last Saturday and I think that for my tastes I found the swet spot. More power than I can handle when I want it but also the ability to seriously tail stall it when I need/want to. Lands almost like an open cell foil.

Wicked fun!

krumly: would be fantastic if you could post more photos or videos about your experiments with a minimal frontbridle. did you see the latest PeterLynnHimself newsletter? there is a pic with a mini-bridle on a Guerilla helping it to easily boat-launch.

that latest PL newsletter was interesting for a number of things; I like the description of the simple hook on a tab with a pilot kite to launch an arc from a boat. But the statement about NASA wings was the one that really caught my attention:

"Another reason is that a few years ago we showed conclusively that NASA style single skin kites are surprisingly better upwind than I expected theoretically.
NASA's pull very strongly for their size, but don't fly at a very high angle. However, they are the best light wind traction kites there are; will fly in almost nothing, especially when made of now available lightweight (like 15gm/sq.m) fabrics.
We found by repeated comparative testing using two identical kite cats, that a 20sq.m NASA would always beat a 20sq.m Arc around any upwind/downwind course up to at least 15km/hr true wind.
Which can't be true but is."
