I give thumbs up to this guy. I think just simply taking to away wasn't dramatic enough to impact his daughter. Remember she had done the same thing ing the past. Kids are way to spoiled these days (I'm guilty of doing the same with my kids) after a while they seem to think that the parents have the duty to give them everything and anything. I used to spend like 200-300 on Christmas gifts per kid, and the same each birthday, it seemed that they never appreciated anything I got for them. I spent 100 max per kid this year including stockings and they still are enjoying the toys they got. The other years half the stuff would be broken and or lost or garbaged because they just didnt care. Kids these days are way to materialistic now a days. I see six year olds with cell phones. I once asked a parent in Walmart why their kid had a cell phone, the parent told me so they could always be in contact with them..... When should a kid under ten not be in contact with one of their parents?????? Even as teenagers, I don't see why they should be out all night and the parents have no clue where they are or who they are with. Anyway sorry to rant on back on the topic at hand. I give this guy medal. How was she allowed a FB account and lockout her parents from seeing it in the first place????? Wow I'm glad to read about situations like this to teach me how to handle things when my kids become teenagers. I'm just glad that they will all be teens at different intervals so I only have to deal with one at a time.

I'm not sure if a Youtube video was really necessary, but an exclusive showing of this to his daughter would have sufficed. Imagine her explaining to her friends..."Why haven't you been on facebook?" "Oh...my dad shot my laptop." "Why?" "I was being rude apparently." That sort of embarrassment is enough for a 16 year old.

That aside, Facebook and Twitter and the like have made a platform for kids to breed these crazy expectations of their parents. A kid can go online and see their friend posting about how they just got an iPad, or how they don't have to do any chores because they got a cleaning lady, blah blah blah. Seems to be breeding more spoiled, lazy kids. (On top of the whole video game / TV issues that already exist.)

Also, it's true kids are too spoiled these days. Here is just a glimpse of the post Christmas Twitter feed of kids #@%$#!ing about not getting the nonsense gadget they asked for. This literally makes me sick to my stomache...and I'm 21, and was reasonably spoiled as a kid, but after seeing stuff like this, I want to move to a commune and home school my kids, whenever that happens.

...also, I have a dog that I spoil to an unnecessary extent, but she doesn't have a Facebook to worry about. (Yet)

Couldn't agree more. I cannot imagine how angry he was with his daughter but pulling out a 45 and shooting up her computer is one step too far. There must be a better way to get your kid to understand how much you do for them.

Making her give the laptop to someone that needed it and couldn't afford one would've been much more painful and maybe be a step toward her seeing that she isn't the center of the universe. Shooting is was pure drama but didn't help anyone. I hate to see someone destroy something that has usefullness. Drastic measures. I wonder how things are now?

Kids... Wow!

Facebook is the new mechanism of evolution! Lol how many people post stuff about their jobs a and get canned, how many kids give their parents a huge bombshell (either rants or incriminating pics), how many cheaters get caught on fb... Its all hysterical to me! I wont rant about fb (you all have heard it lol), but its nice to sit back and know I wont ever have to deal with facebook drama! Life has enough problems... Dont need the fb drama on top of it

I agree with bob, should have donated the laptop... ive blown up computer equipment before, so I cant blame him... Mine was trashed before tho lol (and mine resulted in a big explosion  ) (i originally paid for it too :D )

The dad is an IT guy.....getting computer equipment or replacing the laptop would be very easy for him to do. Computers are CHEAP!!! I have threatened many times to my kids that if they mis-use the computer for one second, I will rip the processor out of it and blend it with my high powered blender and then take a hammer to the hard drive and the screen!!! And I would do it in a heartbeat. The cost is nothing really, especially if it allows me to demonstrate the importance of these rules to my kids. If they learn, then 300-400 bucks on computer parts - or just buying another 500 dollar computer is not even an arguable expense.

It is not about anger or threatening his daughter by shooting holes in the laptop. Instead, it is about showing the child how important these things (rules) are. He demonstrated that these rules regarding the computer and online are much more important than the 300 bucks (or so) that the computer costs. Obviously other forms of teaching this importance has not yet worked. Hopefully this one will.

Just my opinion of course......it is worth exactly what you paid for it. :)

A. 'murican Rights and all (yeehaw  im from Nebraska after all)
B. you take away my guns, ill just make bigger ones...
C. I can tell you i do WAY more stupid things with improvised weaponry (most of them completely legal, even with "gun control")... ACTUAL firearms are really safe (around me anyway)

if you have ever seen my stereo you know i just like loud things.... and guns usually fall into that category i dont really hunt, just blow stuff up before it goes into the recycling bin... Destruction is just how some people let go [of office equipment] :spin:

If guns go away, there's aways other ways to teach kids a lesson about computers.... (watch the language)
