So we had a good day of wind today! So we went out the park and flew the kite for some more practice. Start off at about 7-12 knots. Thats when I was
playing with the kite (brown shirt). It kicked up to 15-17 knots (24knots an hour later) and I let my buddy who is heavy than me play. He has been
doing good and wanted to try jumping as well. Anyways, heres a lil video of it.

Did you hop on your ATB? You looked lit enough to make it work!
Also, you can reverse launch a little more cleanly to prevent your leading edge from having to slide along the ground and cause wear on the fabric. Of
course, the best way to avoid wear and tear on your kite is with an assisted launch
Check these videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=auIvgcAG1go
After you've flipped the kite, try to keep the kite low and the steer the kite to towards 10 or 2, not all they way to 12; this results in a better
chance of a scud than a lofting.
Yes, learn how to use the depower first - the Progression Landboarding DVD has a good section... it'll be real easy to screw up a pendulum jump and
hurt yourself on land - although those skills will work good on the water
You don't really need to run at all... unless the wind is really light :o
Some kites simply WONT reverse launch... but you won't know until you try :D
Kober, I watched some videos on youtube on how to do the jump and from what I understood, you needed to run/move side ways and upwind. It worked but
there wasnt a whole lot a wind either. I did get some higher and longer jumps but of course those are never got on film... I'll try working with the
kite depower and movement to jump and see what happens.
burritobandit, I did jump on the board and practiced a little but then the winds starting picking up. Didn't want to risk it. I've tried the reverse
launch with no luck. Also I was actually practicing light wind relaunch from this video - http://youtu.be/TyW_Xfkhe0g
Kamikuza, I dont have that progressive dvd (never heard of the landboarding one, only the water) but will definitely be getting it.
Videos that shows that you need to run are made for fixed bridle kite users ..... where there in no de-power bar.... by running they power up theirs
kites .....
You need to find instructions for de-power kites ..... or look at my last video .... Static session #2 and you can see some of the basics .....

I re-watched Kober's video and looked around Youtube for depower kite jumps. Not liking those as much IMO. When doing a little run, they seem
smoother, longer and have softer landings doing a quick little run first. When I tried, I ran too much but that was a noob mistake.
Drew - post up the video. I always enjoy watching others either doing it correctly or crashing horribly. Either way I learn what to and not to do
:bigok:
nice go , you guys are having some fun! the light poles where making me nervous.
hey, a good drill for the next outing,
walk up wind(45 degrees cross wind ) like 50 yards (this is your point of sail!) , keep the kite stable and happy. then, scud back down wind with
diving the kite thru the power zone and staying balanced sliding on your feet, in light air less than 10.
point of sail, balance, active kite handling ...all while maintaining good wind orientation.
+1 while running and jumping with a depower, it will take you much bigger then if you were just standing in place. here's a link to the gallery
section where i was running and jumping with a depower, just remember to always wear a helmet!
Been to busy to get out and play with the kite but finally went out yesterday and had some fun with the light wind again. Very unstable, going from a
lull to gust of 15knots. avg was around 10knots. Either way, made the best of it and had a blast.
Looks like a good, fun day. Remember, it only takes one unseen gust up over what you are expecting, and things can go quickly south. You have a
beautiful daughter, please pad-up and protect yourself.

Please....helmet and pads. You're hitting the deck with a lot of momentum - if you keep landing like that, it is only a matter of time before you
break/sprain something. I think your kite needs to be higher in the window - get some advice from someone who really knows how to jump.

The generally ship Media mail, but since it's a single DVD, the transit time from West to East Coast was still surprisingly fast. I expect it would
be even faster to AZ.
Definitely spring for pads and helmet. Even on grass if the kite pulls you forward and you don't land on your feet, softer body parts (or your
noggin) are always finding the one stone that's lying around in the middle of the field.
Keep those videos coming. :wee:

The Progression Landboarding DVD has a good way of learning it... send the kite from say 11 to 1 and lean back against the kite. The more power your
get out of it, the more you can lean back until you basically lie on the ground and the kite bring you back to standing.
You COULD do that... or instead, you could lean back a little and load the kite jump up as it passes 12... Whee boing!

I am glad somebody pointed this out.
I think it's a 50/50 that your kite will get damaged before you do. You can fix the kite !
I will NOT loan my gear to anybody who doesn't at least have a helmet. I can sort of see someone with no helmet on water but on land ????
