Zebra buggy, any thoughts?
Hi guys,
Im considering one of these. From what i gather, they are very similar to a vmax, albeit built a lot cheaper and not as easy on the eye.. Has anyone
had any experience with these? hands-on accounts seem to be non existent on-line....

The gnarly welds say it all. Anodized or raw uncleaned aluminum! Looks as if they welded right through the anodize/ oxide. No pre-clean before weld

Hope the siderails aren't alloy... I foresee it cracking in the bend from constant flexing. That is why my alloy buggy has over/under siderails and
rear axle. I built mine bombproof ,so it has little to no flex.

Im starting to learn a little about welding...not a lot but a little and that buggy looks like it has issues. I would steer clear.

Seriously. That thing looks amazing! And comfy. It makes me want to learn how to weld so I can make something even half as bad ass as that.

i wouldnt trust my fat arse in an alum bug... solid rails maybe 
but that looks like some "safety poles" i rebuild for the railroad. these poles just hold flags and they are a temp mount if an engine or whatever is
being worked on... but it looks like the same square tubing they use... lol i fix/replace a few every week, they are ALWAYS breaking.... and no one is
riding around on them! Aluminum is like wood in my book (for buggies).... yeah some people can make it work (see WG's alum bug : DROOL : ) but unless
it is done right, or you have smooth easy riding, and stay under 20 mph... i'll pass
my 2 cents tho.... how much is that bug btw? i couldnt find a price..

I don't think the Zebra is made of aluminum. Looks like mild steel with galvanized coating to prevent rusting. Lots of folks use the square axle.
It's alot cheaper to fabricate out of square tubing than DOM seamless tubing. I use square tubing on my Cricket so that I can sell it at a more
affordable pricing to pilots that are just starting out. Just make sure you don't use cheap thin wall square tubing. My cricket weighs in at 65 lbs
so it's not a light duty buggy either. I think the Zebra was an attempt to sell a Vmax at a lower price.

after lookin at it again... You are right Van, you can see the large crystalline blotches. Good eye. I kept thinking it looked awful dirty for a
presentation pic.
That is galv. ,all day long.
Which explains why the welds don't have that "row of dimes" look to them. In that case , it might just be a decent, cheap rig. Albeit , ugly as hell
after a while.

1" sch. 80 , 5083 or 5086 AL seamless pipe . I would say around .175 - .180. She ain't light! 83 lbs.last time I weighed it. :o
